2012 - In Review

Jan 01, 2013 05:35

Here's my progress report from May (when I began iconning - GAWD DID I EVER SUCK) to December of 2012!  Each icon leads to the post it's a part of (just click away, my lovelies) - however many icons in a month equals how many posts there were.  The lovely table is from icon_talk.

Since all my previous icons are right here (organized and a click away) - I should also probably tell you about what else I did today!  I signed up for the icon-remake challenge at bestof_icons.  My thread is here.  What a brilliant challenge, 'm I right?  I'm so happy I found that comm with my skulking powers!

Also, as always, my 'Ask the Maker' thread is here.

May

This is the month I started booshsploosh because I actually had a handful of icons made that I wanted to post (and I thought, *shrugs* Hey, I might be into this iconning junk).  Hooray for things!  \o/  I had three posts of all stock, text only and cartoon icons.  It's amazing that I don't really do any of these anymore considering I once had enough to focus a whole post on them.  Weird.

‣ Stock Post - these aren't... horrendous.  I think it helps that all the images used for the icons were high quality because it was certainly not due to any skill of my own.  I did not have any yet, LOL.

‣ Text-Only Post - so much text!  Man, did I have NO clue what I was doing there.  What surprises me most is that I haven't touched any of these fandoms since.  :(  Fandoms: Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Buffy, Cougar Town, Eddie Izzard, Frisky Dingo, Jim Gaffigan, Parks & Recreation.

‣ Cartoon (Archer) Post - Again, text.  I KNOW NOTHING!

June
I was busy in June!

‣ The Lonely Island - I Just Had Sex, Julian Casablancas, Garden State - Wow.  What a horrendous mess of things.  *headdesk*

‣ Hercules (Disney television series), Courage the Cowardly Dog, Duck Dodgers, The Astonishing X-Men (comic book series), Joss Whedon, The Emperor's New Groove - Hahaha.  I iconned the Disney Hercules TV show.  I bet you didn't remember they did a TV show based on Disney's Hercules?  Well, I did.  I fucking loved that show too.  Anyone?  Man, I should icon everything in this post with my new and improved skizelles.  Seriously awesome choices here!

‣ Action Action, The Arcade Fire, Plain White T's, Death Cab for Cutie, Brand New, Bayside, Switchfoot, Hellogoodbye, Maroon 5, My Chemical Romance, O.A.R., Secondhand Serenade, Stars, Young the Giant - A music-only post - that's right, lyrics.  Did not even remember that was a thing.  And, gah, text.  So hit or miss here - almost entirely miss.

‣ A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010), Pan's Labyrinth, The Sixth Sense, Jaws, The Big Bang Theory, Merlin, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo/Who Played With Fire/Kicked the Hornet's Nest (Swedish Version) - Wow, I had NO idea what to do with screencaps.  NONE CLUE.

‣ Supernatural, Futurama - What an odd combo.  o.O  I did .gifs even.  What the what?

‣ Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, Home Movies, Family Guy, Spongebob Squarepants, How I Met Your Mother - I don't even hate all of these.  Plus - the fandoms are AMAZE!

‣ Tangled, Invader Zim, Will & Grace, Star Wars - ZIM!  I went bananas there.  Most of them are teh suck but not all of them are a complete trainwreck, imo.

‣ The Avengers, X-Men: First Class, James McAvoy and Fassy - Wow.  Horrendous. These are just... awful.

‣ Harry Potter - This is pretty much all from hp fanart or wizard_icontest challenges I did.  I cannot believe I placed at all, LOL.

‣ 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Arrested Development, Better Off Ted, Black Books, Community, Dexter, Family Guy, Invader Zim, Firefly, Law and Order, The League, Monty Python, Reno 911!: Miami, Torchwood, Alice in Wonderland, Being John Malkovich, Best in Show, Clue, Coraline, Drop Dead Fred, Edward Scissorhands, The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Garden State, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, I Heart Huckabees, In Bruges, Lost in Translation, Love Actually, Mulan, Office Space, Orange County, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pitch Black, The Princess Bride, Repo! The Genetic Opera, Saved!, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Tommy Boy, The Thin Man, Wedding Crashers, Young Frankenstein - This was basically a favorite things post, one of each.  Too bad it contains some of my least favorie icons.  Boo.  :(

‣ Music and Books - Well, aside from being horribly boring... there's nothing too awful about this post.

‣ Harry Potter, Helena Bonham Carter and Colin Firth, Doctor Who, Bob's Burgers, Archer, Frisky Dingo, Spongebob Squarepants, Game of Thrones, Fall Out Boy, TiMER, Adele, Alexis Bledel, Hilary Duff, Eddie Izzard, William S. Burroughs - A lot of these HP and Doctor Who ones came from tumblr graphics, from the three seconds I was on tumblr, LOL.

‣Harry Potter, True Blood, Tangled - Ugh, these are just... not good. I keep thinking I've found my least favorite post and then I find something that's even more least favorite. grr.

July

‣ Friends, Harry Potter - Again with thinking I've found my least favorite until I find my more least favorite.

‣ True Blood - My first 20in20 (inspired20in20) - it could have been a lot worse, LOL.

‣ Archer, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Avengers-verse, Finding Nemo, Lilo & Stitch, The Lion King, Stock, Supernatural, Merlin - Lots and lots and lots of icontests, stillness and flashes here.  I think you can start seeing some evolution in my abilities this month.

‣ Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Avengers-verse, X-Men: First Class, 30 Rock, Grey's Anatomy, Buffy - All icontests all the time, plus super a lot of Snape/Draco icons - not great ones, but no one icons this ship sooo, I automatically win.  Hooray! \o/

‣ True Blood - My second 20in20 for tv20in20 - I even won some of the categories - Negative Space and OMG!  I should not have, LOL.

August
Holy shit.  I did a lot in August!!!

‣ Merlin, The Cabin in the Woods, Sucker Punch, Shaun of the Dead, The Lord of the Rings, Family Guy, The Little Mermaid, Stock, Captain America, 300, Tom Hiddleston, Sandra Bullock, X-Men: First Class, Little Miss Sunshine, Pirates of the Caribbean - These are, how you say, the worst.

‣ Harry Potter - hp20in20 - this did not turn out great.  Even though it's Draco.  I KNOW!  I ruined Draco, the ultimate sacrilege.

‣ X-Men: First Class, The Avengers - for marveldc20in20 - Meh, it's better.  Still not great.  I remember how proud of it I was when I made it though.

‣ The Avengers - for avengers20in20 - Okay, I still really like a lot of these and I think this is where you can really tell that I'm bursting into all aspects of the icon scene (and that one of my main strengths is I'm always willing to try new things) because I started experimenting like crazy because I was being dazzled by so much pretty on all sides.

‣ Star Wars - for starwars20in20 - Had to do it, didn't I?  My lovely, lovely Lando.  *happy sigh*  These turned out pretty nice, especially considering I ended up using a low quality gallery because I didn't feel like downloading any .zip of the movies.  I did manage to make my default icon from this batch which lasted about four months - and was just what I wanted from doing this 20in20.  Hooray for utter success!

‣ Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Angel - Yeah, I'm not really a fan of any of these.  Ignore me.  I was mostly doing iconflashes here but that pumps out rather sub-par icons, doesn't it?  Note to self: no more iconflashes.

‣ Alice in Wonderland - for scifi20in20 - Okay, I remember this, I signed up for tons of - read: six - 20in20s this month because I was so excited to make some icons, procrastinated like crazy, ended up deciding to do them 72 hours before they were all due (they were all due on the same date or like one day apart).  Yadda, yadda, yadda...  I churned out some truly awful icons.  Ugh.

‣ Suits - for character20n20 - Wow.  Just.  I think I made all 20 of these in four hours.  It shows.

‣ Tom Felton - for celebs20in20 - I can still remember the mad dash that was finding these images.  I think it got maybe eight hours.  *snorts*  Gah, I'm such a mess sometimes.

‣ Ringer - This got a little over two hours maybe.  I managed to get my entry in about a minute before that round of inspired20in20 ended.  IT SHOWS.

‣ Daniel Radcliffe- for guys20in20 - this one got almost a whole day because it closed a day after the others.  That's why it doesn't suck as hardcore.  I won first place for category and second place for artist's choice, best accessory and first place icon for artist's choice.  I learned from this: the more time you give something, the better you do, LOL.

‣ Downton Abbey - I almost forgot about this one and ended up doing it super quickly since participation in downton_20in20 isn't great and the mod extended it just for me.  Again, a couple hours is not enough to do really anything worthwhile.

‣ Harry Potter - I get a lot of shit for this luck20in20 post because it is so bananas but I finally figured out what I was doing, LOL.  I was imitating this post by blue_emotion and that makes me feel much better.  Granted, I didn't pull it off with her aplomb - at all - but I'm quite all right with that since I'd only been making icons for a couple of months at this point and her techniques take a lot more experience than that.

September

‣ Doctor Who, Mulan, Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton and 1951), The Hunger Games, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Sherlock - What a horrendously haphazard post for my first theiconquest entry.  I know I was in a hurry to start and there was NO reason to rush but I was excited and didn't care how these came out.  It is obvious.  Grr.

‣ X-Men: The Last Stand - for marveldc20in20 - There was a lot of playing about with lighting here.

‣ Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Star Wars - lackadaisical icons.  I think these icons were for the sake of icons and no other reason.  I was trying some stuff... *headscratch* LOL.

‣ Harry Potter, Merlin, Stock, The Hobbit, Firefly, Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, True Blood, X-Men: First Class, Iron Man, Captain America, Dread, The Avengers - Icontests, icontests, icontests.  I think this post shows the most growth and is really evidence of how far I've come - everything from here has mostly been fine tuning the skills I've gained throughout this month.  My Hobbit icon even placed first and then went on to become icon of the year at shire_icontest.  How cool is that?!  This post also had my first (and only) request icons!  I hope I didn't suck.  >.<

October
I know it looks like I wasn't doing shit in October (or November, LOL) but that's because I was working hardcore on my three fandom365days tables and my spartacus2010 table - So far I've got 143/400 and I hate them ALL now.  Ugh.  Those won't get posted until they're complete!
‣ Spongebob Squarepants, The Avengers, Bob's Burgers, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Archer, Ed, Edd n Eddy - I still really like these.  I forgot I ever did cartoons before (only in doing this did I remember, LOL) and these are SO far improved that it basically is like I've never done it before.

November
‣ Harry Potter, Supernatural, Luther, Shutter Island - There are some pretty icons in here.  Not many, but some. The one that previews the post won icon of the month too! :P

December

‣ Teen Wolf, Beauty and the Beast (TV), Love Actually - I am SO, so proud of the bulk of these.  But I'm always proud of my recent icons - it takes me awhile to hate them so much I wish I could set them on fire, LOL.

‣ Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Sucker Punch, Jennifer's Body, The Secret of Moonacre, Supernatural, The Avengers, Lost, The Cabin in the Woods, Alice in Wonderland, Teen Wolf, Merlin, Arrested Development, Game of Thrones, Community, The Hobbit, Inception - Gah!  The text in this post *drags nails down face* - I had so much fun!!!!  I think I might finally have gotten the sharpness right - well, about right.  I got my new default for the new year from this post too!

Goodbye, 2012I hope I've shown improvement!  I have, haven't I?  *hyperventilates*  Otherwise I am severely deluded, LOL.
