i'll be alberta-bound three days early (= very early wednesday morning) for my grandfather's funeral. not the news i wanted to receive early saturday morning.

i'm back. the 1600 km drive to get here sucked.

going to high level in the morning. a lot of lightning went through their district yesterday and has started, so far, about 30 forest fires. i think this will be my 5th trip up there in 7 years. it's an entirely different world.

i'm looking forward to solstice near the 60th parallel.

it keeps raining. little bits each day that kill any chance at a decent hazard. too much time without fires - or at least a hazard - makes me fidget.

sounds like ontario requires out-of-province assistance on some problem fires. send me send me send me!

i'm in wab as of 13:00 this afternoon. the weather here isn't nearly as nice as the weather in the 'peg prior to my departure. still a bit of snow on the ground. the weather is supposed to crap out on wednesday, too, which will make it a slow start to the season. sounds like we'll be busy with pine beetle work when we're not busy with fires ( Read more... )
