Revenge: Sadly, unlike the lead in TSC, I am not impressed by this show’s main chick. She’s too…bland, softly-spoken, unconvincing…I don’t get any sense of contained menace from her. I feel no underlying threat in her words, no leashed tigress quality in her movement, just…nothing to indicate she isn’t really an ordinary teen girl. Which, ( Read more... )

WOOHOO, long comment! :

The whole 'Count of Monte Cristo' notion from the female POV is what sucked me in, and so far, I think it'll be interesting to follow

Have you read the actual book or seen the movie or whatever? Everyone keeps referencing it and I'm curious what, if any, parallels there are, other than seeking revenge, obv.

By all appearances, she looks like a girl who's harmless and innocent, but then the audience realize that there's so much more going on below that calm exterior

I just feel like the actress doesn't do enough to make me believe there's a cold-blooded manipulator under that harmless, innocent exterior, y'know? When she's playing innocuous and all, I can buy it, but the moments I need for her to bring something extra to see her as this shrewd schemer fall flat. But that's just my opinion, I'm glad she works for you. ^_^

I can't help but wonder how this show can possibly last more than one or two seasons. I mean, once it runs through the inevitable 'revenge'/Count of Monte Cristo storyline, then what?IKR? ( ... )

that 'goth' picture of Amanda actually makes me think of actress Amber Tamblyn in a hood. A little Kristen Stewart, but boy - she almost looks exactly like Amber in that pic.

Ooh, nice comparison! Thanks for playing. ^_^ I think you win that round. I made the KStew reference 'coz of the hair and hoodie, but I know her face doesn't really resemble hers. I can see Amber, though.

I ended up d'loading it. Now, I'm feeling lazy about watching it, *lol*.

As I'm telling everyone I've put off with my thoughts, lol, give it a go anyway. Everyone's different, my poison might be someone else's ambrosia, etc. etc. And maybe going into it with low expectations will help overcome disappointment and find the good?

I had a feeling it would suck since it's produced by Drew Barrymore. I mean, no offense to her, but I hated what she did to the Charlie's Angels movie franchiseShe decided for it to be campy? Huh. I actually found the movies funny, for the most part, and nice light entertainment but I've never seen the original. I'd be annoyed if ( ... )

I think I'm going to love Revenge (I love revenge-based stories) but I agree on Emily. She was not impressive at all in the show... she portrayed one emotion: disinterest.

And I agree 100% on Charlie's Angels. I actually went into it not expecting much but I thought I'd try it out. When they killed off the one angel (good for you for actually remembering names at least!) I was suddenly intrigued. I was actually hoping they'd go forward with only two angels instead of three and I was all for that idea. And then they didn't. I agree on the dialogue... it was HORRIBLE! That whole "I never knew my heart could hurt like this" or whatever she said. And the "We're her family. We're sisters." What was that?! The highlight was the "I'll call you" hand motion that he did on his way out of the plane.

Yeah, I won't be watching that again and usually I will not stop watching based on a pilot because I believe all pilots suck. But this one takes first place for suckage.

LOL, your assessment of Emily...too true. It's crazy, this is her story, I should be able to get behind her and feel her, but no! She was totally blocked off from me, mainly 'coz the actress was so uneven that I wasn't sure half the time if the emotions she was portraying were meant to represent the character or if she was just really bad at showing what we were meant to see.

Like, in the very first scene- was Emily dismayed? Or was she inwardly exulting at a plan working and pretending to be dismayed? Did she plan the murder or was she surprised? It's driving me nuts. ACT BETTER, PLEASE.

for you for actually remembering names at least

Haha, I had to rewatch the intro at the beginning a couple times to get names straight! I kept mixing up Kate and Abby- they're both the generic kind of names that aren't specific to the character in ways that I can remember.

That gif! *g*

WHY DIDN'T YOU WAAAAARRRRRN ME? I WALKED INTO IT UNPREPARED FOR HOW ABYSMAL IT WOULD BEEEEEEE.

Nah, I had looked at a few reviews and one in particular was all 'don't watch this, it is complete crap' and I decided to see it anyway out of curiosity, so yeah. My fault entirely!

and I didn't want to be that friend with high and mighty opinions about things that haven't even aired and I'd only seen previews of on Channel 9, and also biased by the fact that I dislike Rachael Taylor a lot for no particular reason

a) You can be high and mighty all you like, bb, I respect your opinions!
b) if I'd seen the previews, I would've realized that the one angel I liked wasn't gonna be a regular. *sigh*
c) I'm not a fan of her either. She wasn't very good in Transformers (who was?) but I decided to give her a chance, as an Australian. BOY, WAS THAT A MISTAKE.

So now I'm just like, I WAS RIGHT IT DOES SUCK HUZZAH while sympathetically patting you on the back and saying, "Aw, that's too bad champ."LOOOOL. Oh, you ( ... )

I was shocked by how much I enjoyed Revenge! It looked like it would be so boring but I honestly love everything about it so far!

Yes, yes, exactly! I was dubious and then halfway through, I was typing lots of flaily positive things about what I was enjoying and yessss, by the time it was over, I was like, damn, I want more! Looking forward to ep 2. ^_^

I can't say I love EVERYTHING, 'coz I find the lead a bit weak, but it is only the pilot and they often don't accurately showcase the strengths of the series, so I'm hopeful I'll find more to like about her next time round. *fingers crossed*

I hope you like it! If I understand the commercials this week, 13 million people watched the premiere and enjoyed it? I have high hopes for this show!

I have the same opinion as you about 'Charlie's Angels'. I expected so much more. I like Rachael Taylor and Minka Kelly so I wanted to like this episode a lot more than I did. It was just so goddamn cheesy. The dialogue made me want to poke things in my ears and eyes. However, I have learnt not to judge a show by its pilot so I think I'm going to give it two more episodes and if I'm still not feeling it then I will drop it for good.

I was feeling some Aussie spirit, so I watched it to support Rachael Taylor. Aiyiyi. *headdesk*

I'm- well, not happy you hated the dialogue as much as I did, but at least you understand where I'm coming from. I defy anyone to think that was well-written, seriously!

Hmm, I'mma chicken out and wait for your assessment of the next couple eps, methinks. I don't have the heart to watch more of it without an indication it'll improve. UGH.
