this is a twilight post (wait, don't defriend me just yet!)

A lot of times, I qualify statements with ‘this is so embarrassing, but…’ or ‘I’m kinda ashamed to say this’.But really? I don’t have to do that! I don’t need to justify my tastes, no matter how much I feel like I do. I’m sure most of you guys don’t judge me incessantly, or if you do side-eye me on something, well, it’s not the end of the world. We ( Read more... )

Completely unintentional, I assure you.

I'm not a fan of Twilight, and the fic started as a parody and, as usual, ran away with me and became a legitimate story... READ IT! (though it's not finished)

UGH YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS POST BECAUSE I ADORE LUMINOSITY WITH A GREAT AND FIERY PASSION IN MY HEART. HOW FAR ARE YOU? BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T WANT TO SPOIL YOU FOR IT ( ... )

YOUR ENTHUSIASM MAKES ME EVER SO FLAILY AND EVEN MORE GIDDY THAN I ALREADY WAS! AND IDEC ABOUT SPOILERS, I AM A SPOILER WHORE, SO ANYTHING YOU WANT TO SAY IS FINE.

I am... *checks* at chapter 13. I got up to the part where she says she loves him and they make out and then I crack up laughing at the part where he works out they could've been kissing months ago and she's mentally kicking herself for not asking whether it was safe, lolol.

I just...I had such a huge groundswell of emotion, I didn't realize how invested I was in their relationship til I squeed and heart!sploded over this and now...now I'm kind of scared to keep reading because IDK if they'll end up together in the end or not! *quivers* WHY DO I CARE SO MUCH, OH, MY HEART.

I looooooove Bella as a proactive protagonist who takes an active interest in the direction of her life! THIS. COMPLETELY. None of this sitting by a window for months on end to Lykke Li's heartbroken wailing for Bella from Luminosity, I'm sure. I cannot get over how much I adore the fact that she has ( ... )

Oh goodness, I was ridiculously invested in them from day one as well! I went into the fic like, "oh I wonder if she would end up with someone else that would be interesting!", but the way that Bella and Edward are written in this context-- with her actively imposing her own values on his behavior and enforcing her boundaries, with Edward needing her as much as he does, I was totally sold.

And don't worry, Bella/Edward is Luminosity/Radiance endgame otp.

How frakking AWESOME was she when she got kidnapped? I loved how that turned out! I mean, I thought her decisions meant that she wouldn't get kidnapped at all, but I loved how it happened here SO MUCH as I kept reading. UGH UGH UGH YES. That was pretty much what I was thinking about ( ... )

Also, to my knowledge, the author isn't the same one who wrote Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, but both authors frequent the same message board, and I believe Methods of Rationality was inspiration for Luminosity.

Thanks for clearing this up - yeah, Eliezer Yudkowsky writes Methods of Rationality. I borrowed his premise and translated it to Twilight, but we have no other creative cross-pollination, and certainly aren't the same person!

Augh, I'm so embarrassed! I have no idea how I came up with that idea, I wrote up most of this post a couple weeks ago and only just got time to properly type it up and illustrate with gifs, etc. and post on lj, so I'm not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that! Maybe I saw a rec post that listed the two fics and for some reason thought it was saying they were by the same author? *headdeskwallfloor* I'll edit that now!

Ohhh, that's maybe how I made the mix-up! Thanks for letting me know, and for giving me some idea how I mistakenly made that connection. It baffles me how I messed up like that. O.o I prob saw a discussion of the two fics and just skimmed past it and assumed it meant they were by the same person. *failz*

As a fan of the 1st Twlight film because of the amazing cinematography (yeah I'm a geek) but someone who ran screaming from the book, this intrigues me. I want to look into reading this fic very, very soon.

I hate when people say teenagers cant be mature, and speak well, be self-aware, or make rational decisions. All teenagers are not the same and I know often in my Thicker than Water series people say the teenagers should be more like teenagers. I dont know about them but I was pretty much just like the characters when I was their age and I didnt grow up on a creek with a kid named Dawson. I find the whole thing insulting to the point of rage.

I hope you like it if you do check it out!

It's a very popular belief and it upsets me. It's like people are saying the only worthwhile teenage protagonists are idiotic, selfish, thoughtless douches and that if you write them with intelligence and redeeming qualities, then the author's doing it wrong. We should all be like characters from Harry Potter and bully and torment people and let our feelings cause us to hurt others, physically and emotionally, that's the only valid way to write a teenager. UGH.

I know often in my Thicker than Water series people say the teenagers should be more like teenagersWas that the one...no, no, I think the one I read was from ages ago, The Grove or something? I really liked the way they were written there, you could see their canon personalities in them. I don't believe adults spring into existence fully grown, there are often elements of the person they'll grow to be in the teenager. But ( ... )

It is popular and television/books/movies alternate between perpetuating it and being peeved over it. The truth of the matter comes down to this, every person is different whether they're 6, 16, or 36. Some are immature and mean, some are introspective, some are giggly, some are serious....they come in all shapes and sizes at every age. And that's cool, not something to bash.

Yeah, you're probably talking about The Grove. Thicker than Water is a lot different and I think I stick even more to the Canon characters in young adult form. Check out this story if you get a chance and let me know. The whole BAU team is in it, including Seaver. A lot of the teen stories in the CM fandom, or even the kid stories, turn me off a bit. Its a fine line to walk, in any event, and the writer's experiences will color it as well. But I dont find very much interesting about reading (or writing for that matter) a bunch of immature, mean, silly characters at any age.

Yeah, I'm sold, Annie. Haha. Seriously. When I get some time, I'll come back and read Luminosity. I can't stand the Twilight books (working in a bookstore just reinforced my hatred of them) and wouldn't mind getting a better perspective on them for once. They had potential, but SMeyer can't write for crap! D:

Eeek, now I'm scared! I hope you like it, whenever you get around to it! I know it's prob not for everyone, but it is like, tailor-made for me, just, the writing style, the plot decisions, it's all like the author went 'what would Annie like to read?' and then wrote it! I didn't facepalm over Bella once!

Ugh, yeah, while I think a bookstore gig would be great, the exposure to Twilight is unfortunate. >_< I think the reason they're so popular is because Bella's so weakly written that she has no real personality and whoever's reading the book can insert themselves in her place and vicariously experience her popularity and LOVE OF THE AGES and so on. She is the definition of a Mary Sue, it aggravates me so much to see her as this huge cash-cow, so undeservedly. >:[

Idk. I mean, I pretty much loathed Twilight for a lot of the same reasons as you, and this fic - so far - sounds like it might just be the answer to all of Twilight's shortcomings. :3 I'll give it a shot at the very least. ;)
