I think you'll be fine if it's trimmed and neat.

first of all, hi tim! :)

i've been bearded and unbearded, and i would answer by saying that a trimmed beard is probably all right .. i assume you will wear a suit n tie? i once went nine months without trimming my beard, and people didn't like that much .. but when i kept it neat it went over okay .. heh i had grey in my beard too.
one thing to remember is that if you have a beard when you apply, your chances of keeping it are much greater ~ it's not so easy to grow it in once you have the job ..

good luck eh? (b)

Great to hear from you, GI!

Well, I went to the Memphis interview with a very short beard. I asked my barber to "trim" it and he gave what i occaisionally refer to as the "orthodox clean-shave" or the "french stubble-beard." It was well shaped, though, so it was closer to the "orthodox cleanshave" than anything, and really short beards are in style in the south right now. Anyway, that interview didn't go as well as I'd have liked, so I'll shave my beard for the NYC interview on wednesday. I'm not worried about growing it back, my facial hair grows really fast, plus at the school I'm at, no one really cares if I'm clean shaven or not. Almost every male teacher has at least some facial hair (usually the ubiquitous southern redneck gotee), and few shave daily.
