I really find it weird when a person continues to cause you to feel a certain way, then when you do say something that somewhat reinforces that or suggests that you feel the same way (or at least that your point of view isn't completely abstract), they object.

I play in another band. I quit old medications and started new ones. Business ventures. I've been residing downtown. The bed is warm here. My head is screwing back on. Yippee.
