Green Wednesday morning

The day thinks it's spring but dawn says winter. Two guard ajussis have made a fire in a steel drum; the red orange blazes rise hot and high in the still dark dawn. Six a.m. and I'm lugging a huge box of recyclables to the official gathering area. It's the fourth box that I've carried, this one containing plastics; PET bottles, yoghurt containers, ( Read more... )

You'd think that your employer would give you a run down of basic regulations and law regarding everyday life. A little info goes a long way.

OMG... And to think that Parisians complain about recycling (we have three separate bins which isn't that big a deal, one for glass, one for paper/cardboard/plastic and the last one for organic garbage).

You should definitely move to Europe. No one would mind about you living alone. No one would harrass you about recycling in *almost* the middle of the night. And we could hang out and hate the world around us while imbibing booze...

I'd move to Europe if the weather was nicer. ;P
It's just here, in the suburbs that I'm getting more attention than usual. Too many ajummas (stay at home housewives) with too much free time on their hands.

really? i just do glass, plastic, metal, food, and then everything else goes in a big black plastic bag. occasionally they put stickers on the bags and i stop for a while. but mostly, no one cares.

besides, i just get my cleaning lady to deal with all of it. cleaning ladies! woohoo.

I think it's easier to get away with that when you're not living in an apartment complex. At an AC, a whole bunch of security ajussis watch and help you sort, so you can't do things halfway.

Ethan and I get all these weird looks at our apartment because everyone who lives there is atleast 2 times older then us with families. Plus when you go into the garage there are porsche's, bentley's, and other ridiculous cars galore. So they pretty much are wondering how do "those kids" live here and why do they need such a big apartment when there are only 2 of them.

Korean people are so incredibly nosey!

It's the '우리' mentality. Like no differentiation between the public and private.
And aren't you in Gangnam? I find it weird that Gangnam people are nosy. Seoulites rarely give a damn about their neighbors. I hardly ran into my neighbors, or even said hello when living in Gangnam.
Maybe it's because you guys don't look Korean or something. Anyhow, in some matter or form you kind of get used to it.
