Sidekick of the Month

Aug 05, 2006 18:29

August may have just started, but this month's Sidekick of the Month award goes to Gibbs, from Pirates of the Caribbean [II]: Dead Man's Chest (which i just saw with sen_ichi_rei and a friend of hers).

While he starts out as a law-abiding sailor in the Royal Navy
in the first scene of Pirates of the Caribbean [I]: Curse of the Black Pearl,

Glad you enjoyed the movie - how much more fun was it with the Hebrew subtitles? (best movie I ever watched with the subtitles, by the way? Prince of Egypt - because of all the lines that translate back into biblical quotes)

And I wasn't so sure it was worth staying til the end on this one... maybe if the credits had been shorter. But after waiting for what must have been ten minutes, I found the extra part to be a bit disappointing.

The Hebrew subtitles didn't significantly up the fun factor, although they were helpful, for instance they translated Jack Sparrow's voudouish ex-girlfriend Dalma's name as דודה דלמה; without that i wouldn't have known that they were calling her Tía Dalma. It also helped translate some of the more esoteric pirate slang.

You were disappointed? Ohwell. I thought it was hilarious.

Yay! Shout out!

And I don't Gibbs will get that kind-of booty with Elizabeth... And I was about to continue the comment further and realized I would be giving stuff away to people who haven't seen it yet. Gah. Stupid sense of spoiler-honor.

Maybe I could be a pirate....

Sorry Rachel, Hobbits (even Yellow ones) don't make good pirates.

Foot-hair caught in rigging... very bad.

Although i could definitely re-imagine the Fellowship of the Ring "bar scene" in Bree as taking place in Tortuga.

Whoa! You changed your LJ icon and lost the [not actually] black hat!

And I think I would make a pretty good pirate. Hobbits are good at stealing things. And as everyone points out to me, my feet aren't actually hairy (and then they say "you're not a hobbit, Rachel" but that's another story...)

Weren't you going to head to the valley of aboriginal ghosts now?

Uhm.... i have many LJ icons. This one is a bit older (and more realistic) than the Chareidi Bogeyman (bringing out the red in my beard) one.

And i'm already IN the Valley of the Aboriginal Ghosts. Look around you, yo. It's a valley all the way down to Gilo! But don't worry i'm heading up now.

(and no, i am not saying "aye aye cap'n")
