Tail completed

Moving into the new workplace is paying off! Spending a lot of time there, and finally getting stuff done again. Even finished the first segment: the tail! I'm not 100% happy with it, but it will have to do for now. Looking back at the photos, it reminds me more of a raccoon than anything else.
It still flows beautifully, which cost me a lot of ( Read more... )

Oh wow...

That looks REALLY nice. :D <3 I love the shape - I love the angles on it. I'd love to see a video! Can you get someone to do one on a phone and upload it?

The gradients of the stripes are super nice too. I know you were probably looking for a sharper line, but I actually like the soft blend of the fur. I hadn't thought about using spandex as a sock to go over the frame. Interesting!

I'm so looking forward to seeing this done! How heavy is it to wear? I'm just curious if you had to sew an extra loop...?

Thanks <3

The recurving shape does make patterning for it a ***** of a chore though ;) But very happy with the shape nontheless.

Yeah the blending of the two colors looks pretty nice, but it's not quite as Bost is normally drawn. Plus, I was planning on doing the stripes on the body and wings by airbrush, which will give quite a different look.
In hindsight, maybe I should have gone for seal fur. But I've got the long pile stuff now - maybe I'll redo the entire suit some day in shorter fur. (When I'm more experienced, and make less mistakes that need hiding in longpile.) ;)

That long pile makes it super nice and floofy to touch though. I actually caught myself just hugging the tail when it was done. ^.^

I don't have any scales at the workshop, but I don't think it weighs in at more than 1 kg. The belt needs to be hitched very tightly, but it's made of nylon and very flexible, so it's not too uncomfortable.

I was wondering about the floof... but honestly, could you shave it, using pet clippers to get that short pile tight quality?

You have to get GOOD clippers, and an expensive set... and i'd practice on tacked on scraps of fur before I shaved the tail, but - well, unless you're hiding a bit of the oopses in longpile! That makes sense to me! <3

Hahha, I totally hugged my Ali-tail, it's super soft and floofy!

I got some clippers for my birthday - I gave a list with all the specs generally recommended by builders, and it seems like a good and sturdy device. I've yet to test them out, but yeah I will be trying it on some scraps before shaving the head. ;)
I did some shaving tests on this fur, but with cheap clippers, and the result was pretty horrible. So I'm hoping that the clippers were the problem and not the fur (not dense enough), but who knows. :x
But definitely can't shave this tail - too many mistakes would show up. :p

So from what I’ve read, I’m guessing furring it was pretty difficult! Mind telling me how you managed to pull it off?
