Real friends understand each other's life situations... if your boss at the farm can't understand that you need a steady job that isn't seasonal then she isn't caring about your well-being and not supporting your personal development.
It does suck that the job you actually like can't be a steady job so that you could enjoy life a little more.
As i've learned through my paranoia of getting fired, it is actually really hard to legally get fired. If you've been somewhere for more than 3 months you need 3 write ups on the SAME problem in a 3 month period to get fired (with also a verbal warning before all of this). If you illegally get fired, just go to your local government office and figure out where to go to challenge employment mistreatment and get compensation... :D.
Getting laid off... that's another story but at least gets you EI.
Vorcephrus is right, if she is a real friend she will understand. She may be upset for a little bit, but she shouldn't hold it against you. She knows that you have to pay rent, bills and feed yourself. And in this economy, you need a steady job for that, even if you hate it. Even if you are still working it 4 yrs later just to get by. Just try not to get bitter, like me.

If you are still worried, just talk to her.
Good luck!
