Multicultural program for incoming freshmen?

Apr 29, 2007 14:55

I know I still have a while to go (I'm a junior in high school right now) but I really want to apply to Bradley next year and all that good stuff. It's my first choice and I'll cry if I don't get accepted, etc etc. The thing is, I live in Miami and there is no way I can visit the school beforehand and so I was wondering if anyone knew about a ( Read more... )

I've never heard of anything like that - but I bet it exists.

I came from TN, so I feel your pain.

Not that it's any of my bid'ness or anything... but why BU?

I called the admissions, and I remember them saying something vaguely about it, but I wanted to be sure ( ... )

I didn't finish my thought on the third paragraph...

According to collegeboard.com, it says that Peoria is a 'large' city, which is perfect because even though I want to go to a school in a city (I've lived in Miami practically my whole entire life...and I couldn't imagine living in a rural town), I'd still like to be somewhere where I can either walk everywhere or take a bike everywhere.

Well, a lot of schools have such programs. I called the admissions office the other day and they said something about it but were really vague, so I wanted to clarify with people that actually went to Bradley before calling the office again.

if bradley is one of your top choices, i think you need to look at more schools.

I'm from Orlando and I came to bradley. It's not terrible, but like Miami (or Orlando) you will probably want a car. But, the first year you don't have one it's ok, people have them and friends usually are good about going places. I know I did scooter weekend and I loved it, but I'm not sure if they have the same program any more. Let me know if you have any other questions let me know.

Was the transition like a slap in the face in compared to big city life? (Like Miami or Orlando)

Oh yeah, do TAs teach freshman and sophomore classes? And how are the dorms?

(Thank you!)

The transition was interesting. Since I've been here a lot more stuff has popped up and Peoria is growing and gets new things. There are somethings that I can't get here that I can in Orlando and there is a lot less diversity. But, it's ok. It makes me appreciate that stuff when I am home. And no, TA's don't teach any class at any level. I think there are some classes that they help, but none that specifically teach. It's a pretty cool thing about Bradley.

bradley was my first choice but as a New Jersey native it was pretty far away and in turn I never got to visit before moving out to school. We drove out so I could attend the last orientation and moved in from there. It was kind of a big leap to just go on a whim but it was where I wanted to go. I wasnt able to attend school this year due to financial issues and it really broke my heart. I absolutely loved the school and my friends there. I lived in Geisert and it rocked. As far as Peoria goes, I never went home for the summer after freshman year and just stayed on campus and worked in campustown. I soon realized how shitty the surrounding area outside of campus is. And then when I couldnt go to school I moved into an apartment right by campustown and it REALLY hit me. There are so many crackheads and drug dealers in the area. So many infamous characters roaming the streets. Living right outside of campus was terrible. I still recommend going to bradley but just be careful leaving campus. The crime really blows ( ... )

Eek. :/ That scares me because I really want to feel safe where I go to college (of course). It's my first time leaving home and I don't want to die!

I'm trying to check it out but there's also Boston U. (that I really like) and urg! This college thing gives me a headache. :(
