Ok, folks. First, a reminder to make sure to READ THE RULES. PLEASE make sure to follow the required headers. Remember that you can write anything from short goofy gen for kids to long explicit smut for adults and anything in between. You can write a haiku, a drabble, a short story, an epic novel or some gorgeous art. Let your mind run free ( Read more... )

Is it really that much of a tragedy for someone to be excited and say "ooh, I claim #103!"? I mean, obviously it's not an exclusive claim on this version of ithurtsmybrain. I'm not getting how it's any different from saying "ooh, I want to write #103!" or why it's a big deal.

Anyways. I swear I'm not trying to be snipey.

#103, btw, is PRICELESS. As are #42 and #43.

Yes, it is a horrible tragedy. It is as bad as burning buildings, eating babies, and marrying your cousin. It can be compared to thermonuclear missle strikes, book banning, and overcooking a filet mignon. THERE IS NO GREATER HORROR. And so the world will come to an end.

[I'm actually more disgruntled by all the people who comment that they're going to write and then don't. If there's anythign that the poll pointed out, twice as many people want to read the fics as write them. There's a problem there... I'm not sure what it is... math was never my strong point. 2-1 is... 17, right?]

:-P

LOL, I guess I've just been in too many fic coms where people say "I'll write this!" (and then never do) to expect anything better.

As much as I'd love to write the *awesome* pairings I see, I sadly just don't have the time (or ability).

28. Orihime Inoue - Bleach / Luna Lovegood - Harry Potter
This is THE PERFECT PAIRING. They are made for each other. The luck of the draw on this one was stunning.

And these are made for delicious crack:
4. Jim Valenti - Roswell / Xenophilius Lovegood - Harry Potter
18. Kermit the Frog - The Muppets / Jennifer Honey - Matilda
19. Belle - Beauty and the Beast (Disney) / Hugo "Hurley" Reyes - LOST
96. Lindsey McDonald - Angel / Maria Von Trapp - The Sound of Music

The first three could be so easy to write, and I just want the last one. In my pants.

First, this is not meant as anything snippy or negative, so I hope I don't come across as such. :) Just a few things I think maybe a few others might share but haven't mentioned. I know they cause problems for me ( ... )

Are there any real people in the list? I know that Band of Brothers was based on the real men, but most people in the BoB fandom acknowledge that the mini-series wasn't completely accurate, and we think of the men in it as characters.

As for the few pairings where you know both the characters, it's not like you could do something for all the pairings anyway. If you don't think the characters have chemistry, then you could always write something gen.

Well, I did write "combinations of "real people" (book/movie/tv show characters)". :) I didn't mean real as in actors or presidents or anything, I meant "real people" as in book/movie/tv show characters. My problem is with putting these together with drawn characters because they inhabit two completely different universes. As for actual real people, I wouldn't even have a problem with them. I write RPS and enjoy it. :)

But the BoB thing you mentioned is actually a good point. I've never really decided for myself whether I consider BoB fic RPS or FPS. They really are more like characters than actual people, aren't they?

If you don't think the characters have chemistry, then you could always write something gen.Hmm, that is actually a good idea if the lack of chemistry is a problem. However, I'm not really a gen kind of person. I do pairings. I love writing pairings. It's the idea of putting two characters together romantically that makes me love fanfic so much. So, writing gen is... well, not as ( ... )

Ah, my bad, I did read the comment properly :D That I understand. I guess it would be less of a problem for characters that are both real life and drawn, when a comic is turned into a film or TV show, or vice versa.
I guess it just adds to the crackiness :D

I definately consider the BoB men to be characters. I'm reading the book at the moment, and its a lot different in places to the mini-series. I sort of identify that as the real people, and the show as characters.

not really a gen kind of person. I do pairings
I have the opposite problem! I would love to be able to write slash, but whenever I try, it ends up coming out as some kind of buddy-fic. Lol!

Is it completely wrong that I can look at one of those pairings, and think of a completely not-cracky way to write it ...

No, but then, you ARE insane...

There's no law that says the fic has to be cracky. Go ahead, write it. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO WRITE IT.

Wah, this time all my characters have ended up with unknown people. *sniffle*

I do wish someone would write 25 (Jubilation Lee - X-Men / Thomas Raith - The Dresden Files (books)) because I only know enough about Jubilee to know that sparks would fly if Thomas set his eyes on her. :D And maybe he'd temporarily borrow her powers if he fed on her a little, and Harry would be all O_O.

Since it seems this has become a "my thoughts on yaoi brain asploding" post, I'll share my only tiny gripe with the way the character call is run - and with the full understanding that this is your community since you were the only one willing to pick up where ithurtsmybrain had abandoned, and I definitely owe you a debt of gratitude for that - is that I'd prefer it if we could submit the same character multiple times, and if he or she or it would appear in the pairings as many times as he/she/it was submitted.

All that being said, hurray! for the crack. :D

Huh. Your idea has some merit, but I worry about becoming 20 people putting up the same character 10 times. That will limit the number of unique matches and probably make my brain *bleed*.

On the other hand, that makes me think of maybe running a round of a-la the "porn battle" - you cough up 10 pairings ( must be crossover pairings) you'd like to see someone write.

HMMMM
