Pumpkin Eater

Yours is the only hand, rolled into a fist,
that fits between mine like a decorative gourd

that I’d crush into powder and swallow with wine
then excrete upon the pumpkin patch

When you return next harvest, I’ll carve you into cubes
And eat you as a pie

Squash and Carrot Soup?

Not quite napping
in the autumn afternoon
cheek on cool pillowcase
eyes outside the window
I follow flittering leaves
around a restless sky
and wonder what to cook
for supper --
I feel most settled
palm on pubic bone
middle finger resting
between wet labia
exhaling on your shoulder
hard inside your hand

Chronic

You can lay there
a long time knowing
it will take hours
of shuffling around
and awkward stretches-
some days you lie
on the floor to see
what that achieves-
for all the worn-out
parts of you that die
half way in the night,
reluctant to respond
to your call for help
when you try to make
a day of it.

Stunt Driver

Shifting from the parallel path
angling toward me
up on two wheels
she carefully made contact,
then ground her undercarriage
along my dented guard rail,
long spray of sparks
strained metallic heat,
from one Christmas to the next.
Then smooth left turn,
four wheels on the road
merged back into her real life.
