I felt the same when I listened to my mono set. I didn't realize they wrote so many songs, and the ones that they did, I was like "Woah, I didn't know that was the Beatles!" Shows how much I know about music. haha.
My favorites are Help, Rubber Soul and Revolver. I jut bought Abbey Road and Let it Be since that's not included in the mono set but I haven't opened them yet. I hear Abbey Road is a lot of people's favorites, and I am eager to listen to it. :)
I have the 1965 stereo recording as well on Help/Rubber Soul. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's kinda weird to have the vocals on one side and then the guitar on the other ear. It kinda bothers me when I listen with headphones, but it's fine when I listen with the stereo.
I found it interesting that you said there's a high pitched noise in "A Day in the Life". I listened to mine, and I don't have that sound. I wonder if it's only stereo, or is it only something people with young ears can hear? Cuz, I for sure ruined my ears long ago. hahah. ;)
"Mother Nature's Son" was the weirdest one for me. I was like, hey, it's that John Denver song! And then promptly realized that the John Denver version was the cover.
Abbey Road is my dad's favorite Beatles album - actually still has the record in the basement, though we don't have the equipment to play it any more. It's really good. Be sure to listen to it all in order, though. Putting the music player on shuffle breaks up the medley, and that just ruins it!
The high pitched noise is at about 5:06, right before the "Never could be any other way" loop starts. Apparently Lennon put it in to bother dogs, since most humans can't hear it! Sigh. It's probably because I didn't listen to a lot of music when I was younger, although you'd think that 7 years in band class would have still wrecked my eardrums.
I agree--at first I put it on shuffle but I just couldn't get into the songs so I listen to them all by album instead and that works much better. That's awesome that your dad still has the LP! I have my aunt's US release Meet the Beatles on LP, which isn't that cool except that I found her teenage cut outs of the Beatles photos from magazines. I thought that was cute, because I could not imagine her being like that! (Makes me wonder if she realized she had them tucked away in there!)
I guess you're one of the rare people that can hear it! Makes me wonder what it sounds like, aww! Yeah I can't hear that at all, and I usually skip that part when I'm listening to my headphones since it's at the end, and I don't want to wait that long to hear the loop and just switch albums. ^^;
I'm still listening to my albums now until I get tired of it. I used to listen to the anthology back in middle school. Gives me middle school memories of my recording on cassette. Haha.
That is so adorable! None of my relatives like the Beatles except my parents and I, haha. My dad's LPs are mostly in pretty terrible shape - I guess teenage girls probably take better care of their stuff than teenage boys? Though he was in college when he got them, so that might explain it.
I wish I couldn't hear the high pitched noise =/ It's just like... you know how sometimes you get a high pitched ringing noise in your ears after you've heard a loud noise? It's kind of like that. Ruins one of my favorite songs. I wonder if I could edit it out somehow? I'm not always paying attention to what song is playing, so it comes as a surprise.
I had the Beatles 1 CD when I was in middle school, which was actually pretty awesome as far as choosing good Beatles songs. I've actually heard a lot of stories about people going through a Beatles phase in middle school! Personally I just liked all the fluffy songs when I was in middle school. "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and so on. I wouldn't have appreciated any of their later stuff XD
I'm well aware that I've heard maybe 20% of their music (maybe less). It's incredible how much they produced in such a relatively short time. I think it would be really interesting just to listen to each record in order, to hear their transitioning as a band from pop to more serious/psychadelic stuff. I might have to try finding a few of their albums. Thanks for the break down!
Oh, that was the first thing I did! It's really cool hearing the change from them being a pretty good club band to being a very good recording studio band. As far as finding them goes... they made a pretty big deal about the new remasters, so odds are good you can find most of them at, I don't know, Best Buy had a lot of them the last I checked.
As far as the art journal goes... meh, I didn't like the pictures much to begin with, and after looking at it further I liked it even less. I suppose I was trying to go for a new, x-treme sort of animation style, but meh. I like new, x-treme animation, but something was wrong with my attempt. Maybe the eyes. I struggle with eyes.
Hey, I just noticed-- did you take down the post you made to your art journal? It was a very different style for you, I was curious what your intention had been with those portraits.
