(although there's a good chance that my two semesters of spanish will mean nothing when it comes time to read a letter. i guess that's what my trusty spanish-english dictionary is for, huh?)

it's true!! even though it's officially for Spain, I would get Rick Steve's Spanish guide-- the Italian one saved my ass in Italy and the Spanish one was amazing for Chile-- has a menu decoder and a section on sex and all sorts of fun stuff to jog the memory. I think it's pretty cheap, too. People just do NOT speak the same Spanish in Latin America as an old white woman in a classroom, that much is for sure!
