Oh, hi. I was about to prompt something like this. This ship needs fic. Also: utter schmoop ahead.

In the end they only need rings. They set one day, and agree on not seeing each other before the hour they agreed on. They also can't afford anything too fancy, in theory, but when having to choose a ring, Maurice goes for white gold even if it means cutting on a lot of expenses. They've spent so much time not indulging in frivolous things, at least he wants this to be proper. The jeweler congratulates him and asks if his lady is pretty; he answers that she is. He goes to a barber (which he usually avoids, they shave on their own and cut each others' hair), changes into his best clothes after work. His best clothes aren't half as good as his worst clothes used to be in England, but it doesn't change the intentions ( ... )

This is just wonderful. It makes me want to go back and watch the movie again. Makes me wallow in the joy that is Scudder and Maurice. Makes me hold my breath as they exchanged rings. Just beautiful!

Thanks so much! ♥ those two are pretty much my favorite ever so it's awesome to know that it worked for you. :D especially because I've never written Maurice fic before but I figured, I watched the movie ten times and read the book at least five, I could give it a try and hope not to botcher the dialogue. ;) thanks again! And those two just give you joy to wallow in, don't they?

Thank you so much for filling this prompt. We definitely need more fic for these two and I wish the fandom was a a bit bigger. I really love this story, you have their voices/characteristics spot-on here and their ceremony was perfect.

Lovely story! It's been ages since I read the book (or saw the movie), but I still recall how moved I was by their relationship. This is a very sweet epilogue.

I'd like to imagine that this is the real ending to "Maurice". :) They deserve the happy ending.
