Goodbye
“Kibum, you big fool! How could you do this to yourself?” Onew grumbled to himself as he sat across from an unconscious Key who was lying on the hospital bed. Onew had found the younger boy in the last cubicle of the restroom, his wrists deeply slit.
It was a good thing Onew had stayed back that day and also checked his locker before he left. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t have found and read the note that same night instead of the day after - that would have been too late to save Key, wouldn’t it? With shallow hopes, Onew had headed to Key’s usual hiding spot whenever he was upset; nervous since Key could have been anywhere else for all he knew, like on the roof, planning to jump off, for example.
Just then, Key slowly opened his eyes. Seeing the movement, Onew was by the bedside in an instant. “Are you feeling all right?” Upon seeing the object of his misery, Key burst into tears and tried to hide away from Onew but he was barely successful. Invading Key’s personal space, Onew stared into Key’s eyes. “Tell me. Why did you do it?” Onew asked Key.
Key’s answer could faintly be heard between his loud sobs, “You like someone else but I couldn’t live without you. You’d be happier with Minho anyway. You’ve always said I’m a pain in your ass.”
“You’re such a pabo. I don’t love Minho. He’s my best friend. That’s all there is to it,” Onew explained, to Key’s delight but the next sentence crushed his hopes once more. Onew continued, “However, there is someone that I do have feelings for.”
Without allowing Onew to say further, Key forced him out of the room before breaking down, his heart seemingly unable to heal ever again.
