The Aftermath

Apr 02, 2006 11:54

I was involved in a little bit of controversy recently with my dad being laid off from his job with Chili's Restaurants and Brinker International after working for them for over 21 years. In response, I posted a blog about how angry and upset I was with the company for their decision to do this, and almost immediately after posting it (roughly four ( Read more... )

dude that's lame, they really don't have any right to tell you to take it down, unless it was because they hadn't fired the other people yet and it was supposed to privileged information. but other than that, it's not like you were making things up and slandering them or anything, you were just stating your opinion, and in order for it to be slander, you have to state that it's a fact, not just an opinion.

plus, how lame are they that they actually have people whose job it is to sit around all day and patrol journal sites to look and see what people say about them... paranoid maybe?

Yeah, the reason why they asked me to take it down was because other people hadn't been laid off yet, and they were afraid I was exposing sensitive info. So it's basically like ruining a surprise birthday party, except instead of yelling "SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" it's more like "SURPRISE! YOU'VE BEEN LAID OFF!"

My dad and I both agree that this was without a doubt an extremely piss-poor excuse of professionalism in a corporate environment. I take no shame in what I did.

Hi there...this is going to sound rather strange...but I work for Chili's and have for the last 10 years...I've become rather disenchanted with the company. It isn't the fun, friendly place it was when I started--back when your dad, Jay Towers, and Wilson were in charge of the show. I know exactly how he felt about the big-wigs taking over--it has become a power house that has forgotten it is not just a big corporate machine, but also just a place that sells burgers and beers. I'm only a lowly server/trainer out of the Tampa Bay area, not anyone important like your dad--but it SUCKS what they did to him...and freaky to think that Chili's is reading this right now...scary...anyway, it's like all the Chilihead's have left the company and none remain except a few of us hourly employee's trying to hold onto the dream! I was actually on-line in my desperate hunt for a "real job" in the training world and was wondering "wow--did all the Chili's guys that I know and love go work together somewhere--cuz if they did I am SO going to try ( ... )
