Or you can do what I did. I had no credit, $5000 cash, and a part-time job, and I managed to squeeze myself into a new 2008 Ford Focus lease, in which my payments are only $205.00 a month, which, because I pay on time, my credit score has magically begun existing and is considered Good (yay). Not to mention I did it all completely independent from my parents - not shabby for 19

The thing about insurance is that I don't want to bother insuring a new car. I'm not too worried about car payments as long as the down payment's not too terribly much (I was thinking of dropping about $3000 up front either way), but I don't feel like getting my pockets emptied by insurance every month. Luckily, my mom agreed to get it put under her name and insurance so it'll be at least a little cheaper.
Also, it's awesome to hear from you! We need to spend an afternoon catching up sometime soon. Hope all is well!
Ew... why a focus? get a hyundai accent if you want something like that, much better (and cheaper I believe). also honda civic is reliable and within your price range (I think I paid about 5000 for mine)
