Blargh. I cannot concentrate on polishing SGA fic, so here, have some Merlin vid and icon recs.

Thanks for the vid recs! I confess I've only really watched the ones about the girls before now, so I'll have to check out the others since they are highly recommended. *g*

Ta for the Gwen icon recs, too - I have more icons of Gwen than anyone else, but I'm always looking for more. Though I have to say I love the one I'm using now even if her whole face isn't in it, because she's so freaking gorgeous smiling like that I can't stand it - plus I can't find any other icons made from that screencap. I should probably take some caps and make a few of my own. XD

Your icon is not one of those that bother me. Most of her face is there, it's no different from partial clips of Arthur or Merlin. I'm bothered by the ones where almost her whole face is gone, so she's practically anonymous. It's probably just me. ^_^

We should do a Gwen picspam! That would solve the icon problem, y/n?

Oh no, it's not just you. Probably a reflexive reaction to her getting sidelined both on the show AND in graphics? :P Insult to injury, perhaps.

Y! I'm down for a picspam. I'm about due for a series rewatch; I could always just take caps as I go. (Or maybe I'll just find others' caps and spend that time working on my Big Bang fic. Probably the wiser choice.)

Re: picspam, go with whatever works for you. I may rewatch a couple of eps and do my favorite Gwen-scenes (and possibly some Morgana and/or Lancelot).

I'll admit, I'm a little shy. Good vids are very powerful for me, and to take them apart without necessarily knowing authorial intent is... a scary place to go. But my brain goes there anyway. And didn't telesilla say something about not privileging certain forms of fannish output over others? (specifically referring to ficcing vs. reccing, but I think it applies here, too)

This is true and must be taken into account whenever producing meta.

There was a kerfluffle a while back in which an author got pissed because kyuuketsukirui gave her story a two-star rating or something like that (which is, by the way, about average). Without getting into detail, let us say that this is pretty distinctly privileging writing over reviewing, as though one were inherently better than the other when both are actually recursive and reliant on something else (namely, the canon).

There are folks who think that meta is inherently less important than the original fannish work it's based on, when in fact meta is what's going on in our heads when we experience the original, thus making it rather an intrinsic part of the original work. But that's just my opinion

Oh, wow, really? That's awesome! (I honestly have no clue how either vidders or non-vidders normally view their work, though I'd like to get a better notion so I can meta in a way that makes sense to folks.)

And yes, vidding is incredibly hard work, and there are some amazingly talented people out there. Merlin in particular has some excellent imagery, but since there's only one season so far, you'll probably see the same clips over and over after a while. Still, the really good vids shine through, don't they?
