Briar's been pestering me to ride Honey (the pony) since before we even got here yesterday so we went out to groom her and tack her up, with the understanding that Connor would get a turn as well. Honey is easy to get up to, she just stands there so we decided we didn't need to halter her. Briar curried, brushed, and started doing her face. That ( Read more... )

I'm farm-sitting (well, hobby farm at any rate) and they have a pony.

Briar took lessons a couple of years ago and she has trouble with anything that is challenging and potentially frustrating, she talked about quitting off and on the whole time she was doing it. She finally stopped for the winter and that turned into two years. Now she's feeling ready to try again. She'll have a bunch of time here to practice and get some self-confidence at it before we think about signing her up, which is nice.

A big part of it is simply that she was intimidated. After all, they massively out-weigh her and are bigger than she, even more so a couple of years ago. :-)

Was the pony taken out for any more rides after this try?

Nope, my mother came with my nephew and he wanted a ride but the pony started taking off the minute I tried to move towards her with the halter and I just didn't feel like spending another half an hour chasing her when their visit was going to be short so we gave up on that and distracted him with chickens and a trampoline. :-D Wendy has said the next time we come up her girls (who are professional pony wranglers, hehe) will catch the beast and the kids can ride her then. We had so many people visiting us when we were there, and so much rain on other days, that it just didn't happen again.
