The door is beautiful--reminds me of a narthex at church! And it does seem that you will soon be living in your house! When the carpets come, that's almost finishing, isn't it?
I'd love to see your study--will you be having hardwood floors and built-in shelves?
Both the schoolroom and study are going to be carpeted; the rest of the downstairs is hardwood. T- wanted the schoolroom to have carpets, and I wanted the study to mimic the schoolroom.
I'm skipping the shelving in the study, though I was sore tempted. The built-ins cost something like $1500, which--though reasonable--is too much to do them more often than necessary. We *really* needed a lot of shelving in that room, so it's worth the price there... but freestanding shelves are about $75, and they'll do just fine for my paperbacks and spare computer parts.
Carpeting is indeed just about the last thing that happens; after that, it's mostly just the cleanup crew and inspectors.
We haven't figured out the moving schedule yet, though odds are good it'll happen over a weekend (probably second weekend in February; first is TKD testing), and I'll take a day or two of vacation on each side of the official move to help get everything straight.
Building has actually been a lot of fun, but I'm really tired of writing huge checks every month and trying to absorb the costs from this and that overage. I'll be glad when that part's behind us.
T- wants to do a lot of the yardwork herself, right down to spreading grass seed. The big dirt work, though, they'll be doing: once spring arrives, they'll come back to spread those mounds of saved topsoil back into place.
Took me several days, but I've managed to track down all the missing lights. The hall lights are coming from a warehouse in New Jersey, and the living/dining lights are coming from a showroom in Minnesota.
The Ikea shelves would look great in your study - sacrifices, sacrifices - but what a blessing for the school room. As I told Tara I can try to find the lights down here - Murray Fleiss, Flemish design, aren't they? Everything is turning out beautifully. You've had a wonderful contractor. I can't wait to see it!!! Haven't heard anything about Jackie's & my room. You didn't scratch them off the blueprint, did you?

Are you taking some time off next month?
Will you miss the building process? It was really fun to be able to watch it with you--thanks so much for giving us pictures regularly!
Oh, one final question: will they be cleaning up and landscaping the yard for you?

The guest room still lacks its carpeting, but it's otherwise ready any time.
We've even got a bed lined up. :)
The floor is "caramel oak", by Mullican. It's a fairly strong color, but also quite bright--not at all dark or heavy.
