This is Kate writing one last time for Jackie, my mother. She passed away peacefully yesterday morning, January 3, at home. I held her hand.

Mom donated to Doctors Without Borders when she could, if anyone wants to donate in her name.

This is Jackie's daughter posting for her, since she is still having some trouble typing right now. She had a mild stroke at the end of June, and while she was in the hospital the doctors found that it was due to cancer. She's home now and on chemo. We are close to buying a small house (no stairs) here in town ( Read more... )

It's June, and that means june bugs making lace out of the four-o'clock leaves and baby mimosa trees sprouting among the carrots and beans in the vegetable garden.

June also means too little rain and hot humid afternoons, so that even the dandelions shrivel up by the shed.

Kate and I packed a picnic lunch and drove to the river.

She has a new Mini-Cooper and a picnic basket, and I had bought cherries and made walnut brownies. She fixed us turkey and cheese and mustard sandwiches.
