Sunday picnic by the river

Jun 05, 2011 12:42

Kate and I packed a picnic lunch and drove to the river.

She has a new Mini-Cooper and a picnic basket, and I had bought cherries and made walnut brownies. She fixed us turkey and cheese and mustard sandwiches.

We have had 90+ temperatures for many days now, and only in the shade by the fast-flowing river is it cool enough to walk and even have a picnic lunch. Everyone in our town is out on the water, or walking on the paths with their dogs and children. The temperature must be 10-15 degrees cooler!

An old-fashioned picnic and a brand new car.(I love the forest green colour!)
Contrasts...
It sounds peaceful, Jackie, and it looks like a perfect picnic place.

Such a peaceful place. We are blessed indeed that it's only three miles from our front door!

We walked down a concrete boat ramp to enter the water for wading, and there were gutted ucky fish just by our bare feet!

We walked back up to the grass.

What a perfect day! Glad you got a little breeze by the river. Being by the water is usually cooler. The weather has just been stiffling here, too. Everywhere on the east coast, I guess. Thanks for sharing your special day.

I haven't been back to the river since Sunday. I rarely leave the cool house--we have had 90 plus days since the end of May! It is brutally humid and so very stifling, no breeze anywhere.

The grass is growing tall, but I dare not mow, lest it turn brown.

It was just right. Cool near the water.

Today the town is baking. We have day after day of no rain and 90 degree temperatures (94 yesterday)...
