Why is LJ so slow?

Is this typical now? Yesterday was slow, too.

Are other people having problems?

Do you mean slow to load, or slow as in "not many people are posting"?

It's been slow to load on and off since yesterday. Lj has had its share of problems since the DDOS attacks a couple of months ago. It's driven away people which makes me sad because LJ was attacked for political reasons by the Russian establishment (it is very popular in Russia and dissenters use it as their platform against the corruption in the government. If anything we should support the freedom of speech LJ offers. Ah well..it is the human condition to be impatient and angry way too often.

Sorry for the mini-rant, Jackie. Yes it is slow since yesterday and as always, it'll come back eventually.
I am very loyal to LJ, it seems.

Mine has been slow on and off for months now. Sometimes it is much worse than other times. I'm a patient person and love LJ and am loyal to it, so I just wait . . . .

Oh, dear: Months? Well, I am loyal, too--for awhile longer, anyway.

I've got an expensive permanent account. I need at least another decade of LJ to justify the $150.

it's been slow and sometimes not fully functional for me for a while now. reading your post prompted me to go to LJ Book and download 2010-2011 to date, in case the whole thing goes under. (that'd be a horrible tragedy.)

I got a bit cross during the worst of the DoS attack, but I didn't want to give up on LJ, so I just grit my teeth when it goes a bit slow.

One good thing came out of the problems is that I found ljArchive which is very useful. It archives all your posts (along with any comments) onto your computer. You just have to start it up every couple of days and it automatically syncs to your account and downloads anything new.

Apart from being an excellent backup, it's actually quite handy if you want to look for something you wrote a while ago because it's searchable.
