Whew...finally home. Had an interesting experience with my flight from Miami last night. About 20 minutes into the flight, they announced we were turning around and flying back to Miami because of a security concern. Note, this is already about 9:30pm. We land, lots of trucks and cars with flashy lights surround us, and we taxi over to this special ( Read more... )

Oh, and there was a whole lot of "don't use cell phones!!!!" going on. They even told people to leave them on the plane.

So sorry Brian. I did see that on the news last night, but had no idea you were on the plane. At least you home and got your belongings back!

Honestly, it was more annoying & interesting than particularly frightening. We didn't know much while in the air, so we weren't quite sure if it was targeted on us, or AA planes in general, or what.

So the bomb note was found in the plane's bathroom? IE Left by one of the passengers?

Are you therefore a suspect now? Should we all practice our "He's a patriotic American!" speech for when the FBI comes to ask us about you?

That's the presumption, yes. Actually, while we were still in the air before the announcement, I saw a bunch of the cabin crew rooting around in the bathroom with flashlights.

What do you think would happen if someone left a note in the bathroom saying "Allah commands that you dirty infidel American dogs delay this flight several hours and re-screen all the passengers! In the name of the Prophet you must also mobilize several different law enforcement and/or first responder crews, enough to snarl traffic for the rest of the day! You must act as if this napkin were capable of killing hundreds of people without warning! Or else!"

Thanks to our new heightened vigilance, terrorists no longer need bombs or other expensive equipment. With our kind cooperation, they can paralyze our transportation infrastructure with a ream of paper and a Sharpie.
