Govinda's in the city is pretty awesome, on elizabeth street just opposite the myer centre. They're only open for lunch though.
Forest Cafe in West End is also pretty good, it's on the main stretch there. I reckon it's gone a bit downhill since it was last bought out, but it's still OK.
My Heart Garden on hawken drive in St Lucia, just around the corner from the uni. Getting parking there is a bit of a bitch tough.
Kuan-Yin Tea House in Fortitude Valley just opposite the downhill entrance to chinatown, some very nice vegetarian korean food.
OK, so if you're hankering with something with some meat (all of the above are vegetarian, I prefer vegetarian takeaway because it's less fatty)...
A good start would be Fortitude Valley and you'll find plenty of great restaurants there, especially in that stretch along brunswick street between the nightclub stretch and New Farm. There are a few other good places in the valley that aren't on brunswick st but I can't think of anything specific right now :-P
I second Govindas, love their food - esp the halava! They are open for dinner too though, just -early- dinner, 5 - 7:30 or something during the week and a little later on Fridays, 8:30ish.
If you like good, cheap, greek food, Lefkas in Hill End (just up from west end) is awesome! Lemon potatoes! I always get extra.
Lucky's Trattoria in Brunswick Street in the valley has good cheap pizza and pasta, massive servings.
Pizza Capers (all over bris) is awesome for gourmet pizzas.
Thai Wi Rat in the chinatown mall in the valley has excellent thai and lao food.
