Have I mentioned lately how much I love Gesualdo?!  Seriously, what a crackhead.

Can't wait to play the kiddies Palestrina, and then....the crazy prince's wacked-out chromaticism.

It's such a relief to be heading into more familiar territory.  This was the first time I've actually finished my lecture before midnight.  Halleluia, 1600 here we come!

So I wonder if anyone has written anything on Gesualdo reception in the 20th century? I can think of one Dutch composer who was mad about him. I wonder if there's a connection there--affirmation of the historical "inevitability" of atonality? Hmm... Lots of interesting gender-bendery stuff there potentially, too...
