Well, it's official. I can't use the name John for my co-protagonist. Not only does it have that whole stage-musician and voodoo-priest context, but the protagonist of another novel, one similar enough to draw comparison to this one (Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson), is a scientist whose given name is John. Okay, apparently there's this Southern musician called Dr. John who's been around for more than half a century. While the nature of his Zydeco/jazz fusion is of little concern to me, it does present a significant challenge to Project Euphoria since his stage name is in every way identical to the name of one of my protagonists.
