I saw Rent again today.

It made me realize how much the play sucks placed out of the stage.
At least for me. The characters become empty shells.

And it was way too happy. )

"leads her to hook up with some guy at the end for Smack."
?! what?!

I missed so much when I watched the play. next time, we're not getting balcony seats.

Remember: Chris Columbus was fired from harry potter for sugar coating that. and Halloween is in the deleted scenes, apperently a lot of stuff was cut and is included in the deleted scenes... (you know, once the dvd comes out)

It's at the end of the song. You can hear it on the CD.

ANGEL
It's gonna be a happy new year.
ROGER & MIMI
I'm sorry.
ROGER
Coming?
MIMI
In a minute. I'm fine, go..
(ROGER kisses MIMI and exits. THE MAN appears)
THE MAN
Well, well, well. What have we here?
(He walks over to MIMI and holds out a small plastic bag of white
powder)
It's gonna be a happy new year.
There, there... yeah...
(Fade out)

I see that as her realizing she can get some smack if she gives him what he wants, him saying "damn, I want that," and her accepting. His "there" is very tender, comforting and welcoming.

And I completely agree on the improper director choice. I do judge movies based on the director, and I don't like what he did with the characters.

Oh, I had interpreted that as her just going back to the addiction. Like she had been away fro so long, so the dealer was like "there there, it's okay, here's the drug, you'll be okay now, no more withdrawals, okay sweetie?"

like when a kid cries because he wants ice cream, you're like "ok, ok, relax, here's the ice cream, no need to cry"

like the dealer was welcoming her back home...

I feel when he says "it's going to be a happy new year" he's talking about himself.

For him it's going to be a happy new year, and he's going to celebrate it with this girl in from of him.

taking out the roger mark fight in goodbye love makes mark seem like an empty character.. his only problem is that he got dumped by maureen, but he gets along fine with joanne so its all good..

they set the movie in 1989... thelma and louise (1991) along with half the references in la vie boheme come after...

of course the stage show is better but as someone else put it... it reminds you why you like the show in the first place
