6 Flags Summer

For the first year since my daughter was born (2005), I'm skipping Pennsic. Last year was so much fun being in Royal and doing so many things, that anything after would be a let down. That's reason one. Reason two is that this is the 40th Pennsic, so larger, grander, more crowded, more testosterone... Yuck. Lastly, I'm no fan of the current ( Read more... )

The one in NY is the only one I've ever been too, it wasn't 6 flags back when I was a kid and I remember it being quite nice.

I haven't been back to Pennsic since 1998 and honestly I don't miss it in the least...I take that vacation time and use it to go to many more events throughout the year that allows me to see friends and family...Like taking time off to go to Coldwood or to Northern Outpost for events that are 8 + hours away for the weekend but I will get to spend quality time with people I can only see if I journey there.

Some people view Pennsic that way. When I camped with Sharc, we had regulars from the West Coast (Seattle, Washington, Oregon, etc) who would drive out for Pennsic. It would be the only face time I got with them. We had people from different parts of the country and other Kingdoms who camped with us for years. Then there is the larger part of Pennsic with thousands from all over the country and other parts of the world, all coming together in one place. Pretty impossible to replicate any other time of the year. I do enjoy it, but not as much as before I had kids. The kids love it and were terribly disappointed not to go this year. When they get older, it will be easier for me and more fun again. Right now, it's relaxing, but not really as much fun for the money.

I love Pennsic and can't wait to go this year. I'm going for the longest I've ever gone; prolly arriving mon/tues of peace week.
That said, I haven't made it every year (but some how can't figure out which years I missed '05,'06(?),'09 (???)). I think I wouldn't look forward to it as much if I never skipped a year here or there.

Mostly for myself.... marajade648 July 18 2011, 01:07:01 UTC
Missed '05 due to the obscene # of weddings we had to travel to (including our own)
'06 because of a fellowship orientation
'09 because of more weddings in CA and UT.
