just putting this out there...

okay, so, i had a thought this weekend and wanted to know what everyone thinks.

this weekend i got reponses from the rest of my colleges. although i got into some awesome schools, i was waitlisted at my two top choices. i admit i was pretty disappointed, although i probably shouldn't be, but i've decided to stay on both lists because i don't want ( Read more... )

well, we could all cut school and go to six flags... but then the school would call every college we were accepted to and tell them that we were absent.

jk lovemean.

i wrote a long comment to this but it didn't sound right, and couldn't without sounding quite rude (though i wouldn't blow up at you), so i just deleted it all and want to say that i'm in favor of the tshirt day, even though i didnt get into the school i wanted to go to, and i think it does unify the senior class because basically everyone goes to college from our school. sure thorp/the admin doesn't think about how it might leave out certain students, but i don't think it's a majority, or that a lot of people will be very upset by it... if you choose to stay on a wait list that's what happens. it's only a day.

think about this...what if you see a kid wearing the shit of your dream school...now what if this person has similar stats or slightly lower...what if you didnt want to go to the school you are going to and are embarassed to wear the shirt because it was all you had left. I have to agree with mary because it isnt really unifying..."our chance to show off" is really just gloating and it is painful to some of us. I'm sorry to attack you like this but these points need to be made.

t-shirt day aside, you shouldn't be embarassed about the school that you're going to no matter which school it is or what it was that you were aiming for. How will you like the school when you get there if you can't bring yourself to be open-minded about it now?

(and this isn't so much to you specifically as to everyone. a lot of people with very, very good stats didn't get into schools that they 'should' have gotten into this year, and a lot of people are disappointed. But. . .we all know what an arbitrary process college decisions are, especially now . . .at the very least people shouldn't be embarassed)

its not about being embarrassed. like, one of my friends only got into her two safeies and really doesn't like either of them.

to put it lightly, i despise 95% of our school.
and wow, in reference to last yr..that's rly fucked up.
& fuck it, i'm wearing an nyu shirt b/c that's where i'll be graduating from anyway.
and also, i luurrveee your icon and that song.
"this song explains why i'm leaving home to become a stewardess"
<333333
ughh i hate writing two more letters and then doing a dumb petition for BU, but i figured if it worked for dan last yr, it might as well work this year.

I didn't know what school I was going to until July (weird British offers and such), so I didn't wear a shirt and it wasn't that big a deal. I don't really see the point in caring, but that's just me.

yeah but that's different from being on a waitlist. i just feel like this year was particularly bad. over half of my friends are on waitlists. there are some people i know who haven't gotten in anywhere yet. i just don't see why it's worth having a day like this that might upset people, and a lot of people feel the same way.

It was sort of like being on a waitlist, because the offers depended on what scores I got on my AP tests...if I didn't get a certain score, they'd retract the offer.

I graduated from Bronx Science in 2004 and just to share some advice...really don't stress about what college you end up. A lot of my friends didn't end up at their dream schools, and they're incredibly happy. I know people who got accpeted into what they thought was their "dream school" and have transferred out. Bronx Science puts so much of an emphasis on where you go to college, it's pretty disgusting in my opinion. It's really hard to judge a college without ever having gone there, so as much as you like it now, who knows how you'll feel once you're there? Just make the best decision and if someone has something rude to say about the school you're going to, then that's their own issue. There's so much every college has to offer, and as long as you're willing to go out there and try new things, I honestly believe that everyone can be happy at every college.

I forgot to add this also...I am friends with an admissions counselor at my school (he graduated last year). The process is ridiculous. With so many applicants, the most trivial things can make a difference. As for stats, yea they are important and can limit your options, but in all honestly, essays and letters of recommendations play a huge part as well. Sometimes it doesn't make sense when one person gets in over another, whether they had lower or the same stats, but just realize that it's not all about the numbers. A big part of admissions is subjective, and it really sucks the way it works out sometimes, but unfortunately it's just one of those things that you have to accept.

Enjoy your senior year-you really will miss it as much as you tihnk it sucks right now. If it will make you happier to skip school on college t-shirt day, then go ahead and do it. If it will make you happy to wear a shirt with your college on it, then go for it!

i def agree. i just think that this is a sensitive time for a lot of people and i don't think it promotes school spirit. and i dont think you can know how trivial the college process is until its over. right now its the biggest thing on so many people's minds.
