It is strange but wonderful too - it breaks loads of rules and that is something I need to bear in mind when I'm teaching. If it works, it works.
How did you see the transformations can you remember?

I saw the transformations as being rather different from each other. The first, Joe's, happened over a matter of weeks or months, and was the physical sign of his gradually falling under Brigan's influence. I suppose the obvious analogy would be with addiction. Dominic's was the result of dream logic: Calypso associated him with a heron because of the gift he had given her, and so that was the form she imposed on him.

Yes that makes sense and I think it is evident in the text - I think my conflation of the two in the review was rather lazy!
I haven't read any of your others do you use transformation in any of them?
