As I look at folks' Decade in Review things, one thing that strikes me is that this past decade was the one where I became a real adult, and a large amount of what that was about was defined by 9/11

"decade of fear", yeah, definitely. Was talking with someone yesterday and realized bush's presidency was completely bordered by the oughts. Not that that's the whole picture, but putting it in that frame helped remind me of the whole nature of that chapter. I liked reading this post; it's easy to forget just exactly how much changed after 9/11, and i think you said it very well here.
