Antiques Roadshow

Two tickets to the Antiques Roadshow taping this morning just fell into my lap and I'm sitting here wondering if I want to go or not. I'm not a spontaneous person and last time (in San Antonio) I had a panic attack when the appraiser put my mother's pearls in her mouth (yes, that thing where they test if a strand of pearls is real against their ( Read more... )

Yeah, that doesn't sound like much fun at any time.

The only fun thing about last time is we did The Feedback Booth and our goofy antics were aired.

Doesn't sound like a lot of fun. If the idea is torture and feels like too much mental effort to deal with it, I wouldn't go.

I've decided not to go and offered the tickets up to friends. We'll see if there are any takers.

It would be one thing if the mister didn't have to work and i could spend the day with him carrying my stuff talking in line. He's much more sociable than I am.

Hope you got some takers for the tickets.

LOL. It's the same with me. My fiance is a little more talkative than I am and he's a great purse holder. :)

It doesn't matter if other people think it's fun. If it's torture to you, than by all means stay the heck away. *hugs you* Life is too short to put yourself through unpleasant experiences out of anything but absolute necessity.

Last time I did it with a friend but on such short notice I would have had to go alone. I am not an engager so it would have been boring and the only things I really want appraised is a bronze sculpture that weighs fifteen pounds and a print that's two thirds my size. Neither would be fun to drag around for several hours.

I feel bad that I couldn't give the tickets away but it really was short, short notice.

Sounds like you made the right decision for you.
Personally, I've always felt that attending such an event would be *so* tiring. They only show a few highlights of the day on TV, after all.

It was physically and mentally exhausting last time but there were some fun bits. A lot of people walk up and down the line chatting and wanting to see your stuff. I am not one of those people and the things I'd like appraised are awkward to carry. A lot of people bring a wagon or dolly. I don't have anything like that.

I'm glad I let myself off the hook as quickly as I did.

Definitely do what's best for you---and it sounds like it wouldn't be much fun to go. Especially if you feel panicky and might be a torturous few hours.

(On a side note, while I do appreciate antiques, it's not really my scene but I've always wondered how people found/turned up on Antique Roadshow and you've totally answered that long-held musing :)

You apply for tickets online and PBS has a random drawing. Last time my friend actually bought the tickets on Craig's List. This time my neighbor was chosen and something came up so she couldn't use them.
