So much for keeping up a regular LJ... Sorry. It hasn't been a specially busy return to the office, but there's been a bit of re-entry feeling. And I have spent my off-hours doing a bit of catching up of the stuff I had to cancel pre-Christmas: a silent night tour of Dennis Severs House (a magical fake-Georgian family home in Spitalfields; I've ( Read more... )

The silent night tour sounds amazing - to see a house furnished as Georgian and lit by candles would be lovely.

I really really really want to see Dennis Severs house - it’s been on my list for ages. Maybe next year.

It's very lovely. And a bit more accessible than it used to be - I think when I first heard of it you could queue on Saturday or book for something wildly unhelpful like Monday lunchtime.

I did the silent night tour twice over the years and I regret not doing it this year. I know it's still the same place but it's such a unique atmosphere, I love it. It's one of my fondest memories of Christmas time in London (pre-covid).

I'm so glad I snuck it in before the Christmas decorations came down. I postponed everything before Christmas and it was good to pick some stuff up even if it's a little late for maximum festivity. The candles make such a difference.

"I can't imagine it'll be much, though small people seem incapable of imagining life without the internet so maybe we'll all have to club together and remind them," Oh yes, so with you there. I think back to when me and the other half had just started going out. We used to do the Times Literary Quiz and for the questions we didn't know the answers to, we actually went to the city library and looked things up - imagine that! :)

I used to help my Dad who was part of a postal quiz league team - allllll the reference books and library visits. It was fun, but so laborious.
