Well, today was a first. I got my first ever solicitation to be in a porn flick. I logged into one of those gay dating sites and there it was:

Hey ....

You look great.. would love to use you in one of my video. If you ever want to model please contact me.

I did delete it without replying. I did, out of curiousity, go to his website to see what it ( Read more... )

just because porn has the potential to ruin the lives people have built up for themselves doesn't mean that it'll ruin all lives..

saying that, it's not on my bucket list either.

I'm not saying that the statement, "Porn ruins actors' lives," is based on any kind of reality--though some ex-porn actors may have run into difficulty in their future lives, but that it's one of the most common statements I've heard that people cite to justify why they wouldn't be in porn.

As for XTube, I've never really used it, so I really don't know enough about it to say either way. How would it not be ethical porn? What is "ethical porn" in the first place?

If prostitution were legal I would think that there would be more people admitting that they would be a prostitute. Not that porn is prostitution, but it is viewed in the same light - you know? That being said, I would think that any profession can 'ruin' anyone if they allow it to consume their total life.

I think a lot of people discourage others from being in porn because even if you're in a single film, it becomes "public domain" and thus can be used to damage you in the future. This, of course, does depend on porn being a socially marginalized thing. I did have a very short stint as a print model in Calgary. It was weird seeing myself on the sides of buses or on billboards, but I don't think that anyone cared, and certainly, if it came up today, it would not threaten my chances at getting a job. However, if someone who had been in porn was in the same position, there's a chance that they might not get the same job for the reasons that they were in a porn film. And I guess it's for that reason that people generally caution against being in it; and thus the idea of "life ruination" and its linkage to being in pornography. It doesn't have to consume their total life to 'ruin' their lives. It could easily be a one-time thing ( ... )

I don't think consenting adults who participate in porn have their lives ruined. They've made a decision and have been compensated and also accept responsibilities for that decision. Anyway, porn doesn't ruin people's lives. People ruin people's lives.
