Camera help

We're considering investing in a higher-end digital camera for our trip to Africa.  I know several of you have done research on cameras as of late... any help you can give me?

I love our small Cybershot. It fits in my purse and my purse is really small.

I just got myself a film SLR... if you go digital SLR, which would be awesome, PLEASE get these accessories (I have all of them for my film SLR and love them)

1. Tripod. For some zoom lenses, this will really help get a good crisp picture.
2. Make sure you get UV filters. Leave these on your lenses (your lens caps will still fit) This will protect the lens from scratching.
3. Get a polarizer for your favorite lens. Use this on sunny days - turn it on your lens and you'll get that beautiful deep blue sky without photoshopping.
4. Especially if you're doing safari stuff, get a longer distance lens (I forget what range mine is). I have been so impressed with how well it works.

hi! we have several friends in common, I hope you don't mind my adding you.

and also, I heap on another recommendation for the rebel. We have had ours for 2 years and we absolutely love it.

Where in Africa are you going? We're going in march and are still working on the details.

Hi! I just popped over here since I've seen your userpic around (love it! what a cutie!) and we have several similar friends. Then I see you're going to Africa -- fascinating! Mind if I friend you?
