Laura placed the last of the items from her desk into a box and closed the lid. She looked around at the empty desks and bare walls of the classroom. Just a few days ago the class had been full of children wiggling in their seats in eager anticipation of the end of school for summer break. Laura had always disliked the close of the school year. The classroom felt wrong without the children, but this year was different. This was her last day as a school teacher; tomorrow she began her new career as Mayor Adar’s advisor on education.

“Did you say something, Madame President?” Lee was standing in his cell watching her.
She laughed softly. “Just a little poem that always comes to mind when I make a big decision and wonder if it was right, Captain.”
“And you’re not sure if this was the right one?”
“I’m never really sure. But decisions have to be made, and once they are you have no choice but to stand behind them and continue down the path you’ve chosen.”
