Sharon sat in a plain wooden rocking chair beside a white crib. She held her daughter in the crook of her arm and a bottle in her other hand. The bottle was nearly empty now and the baby’s eyes were closing as exhaustion replaced the hunger that had awakened her.
Sharon sat back against the chair and stared at the light pink wallpaper decorated with small furry forest animals. But there were no more animals in the forests; the radiation had killed all of them. She realized that this was just a dream of a future that would never be.
