A few modly/discussion-y type things:

To put the success of this project in perspective for you all, I went through and counted all of the fics posted at bsg_slash from the beginning of Oct. 2007 to the end of Sept. 2008. There were roughly 27 m/m fics posted to the community in that time. I say "roughly" because I didn't count separate parts of multi-part ( Read more... )

I actually thought this was a really well-run fest (and I'm not just saying that), so I don't have any real suggestions. But I would LOVE to see/be in/even help with a fic exchange. The BSG m/m community seems like it's fairly small (given that I come from the HP fandom, mind you), so I suspect it wouldn't be too insane to organize.

Aw, well thank you.

My two concerns with fic exchange come in the form of:

a) How many people will sign up to recieve, knowing they will be expected to give?
b) With a smaller pool of participants, it might be more difficult to find a willing writer for each "requester".

However, I also think it would be a really fun project. And it's something different from our previous events. I'm sure we could work it out in the end. It's definitely on my mind.

It seems like the BSG crew is pretty open in terms of pairings. (At least the slash side.) Or maybe it's my imagination? I don't know. :) Hope it works out, though!

Just as a thought for a format- one fic exchange that I really like and I know is popular in the Remus/Sirius corner of fandom is rs_small_gifts. it's very low key and low pressure, and I really like the way the writers/giftees are matched up as well.

Depending on when you decided to do it, I'd either be willing to help out or to pinch hit, although my January is a looming black hole of uncertainty. :P (On the other hand, I may be pretty desperate for some escapism. But I imagine you'd want to have an exchange done by the 16th anyway. :) )

Wow I really like that. I have to look more into what they do if no one's prompt is claimed and all that, but this looks like an awesome idea! Thank you for pointing me in that direction!

Well, you did forget to mention something. Who wrote the most fics? I did, so I win. So, neah!

LMAO!

Seriously, I think there is one thing you can do now. Start gathering prompts for another slashathon. May we have something more substantial than last time? I enjoyed the first round, but "Hangar Deck" wasn't much of an idea for a fic. I need more inspiration, my BSG writing ability is severely depleted.

Hah, go you!

You're right, some of the prompts were more substantial than others. Some were a picture and some were an entire song. Some were just a song lyric/title. There was definitely an imbalance there and that's certainly something we'd address if we do another grab-bag type 'thon.

Hopefully next time you'll be more inspired. (You seemed to do okay this round!)

I did well for the commentathon because there was no limit for size. They were small, easy to write. I don't like doing that because if I get in the habit of it, coming up with sustainable plots for longer fics is near impossible.

I wish I had something more thoughtful to say but pretty much all I got is YAY!
I can't believe how many fics there were, how many awesome fics there were!
Ya'll are doing such an amazing job here :)
Keep up the great work

How awesome were they? Man, too awesome!

(Only if you promise to keep up the great writing...)

New Years/December would be really great. I know for me that's winter break from school and I'll be home for a few weeks without much else to do but watch BSG in preparation for the last episodes, and probably more warcraft than is healthy ( ... )

Oh, good. I assume lots of folks have some time off during that period so it's a good time to do something. And hey if you have any slash-oriented meta you want to write and put here at the comm, it's more than welcome! I know I'd love to read it. Good for you for being willing to go outside your comfort zone. That can be really, really difficult!

Hah, that sculpture does look like a cylon! And it was made in 1913? Crazy!

Thanks for your input.

yay for fest! I wish I could've participated more, but it wasn't for lack of interest or fun things to write.

as far as a ficathon goes, I'd probably have to take a pass, since I'm trying very hard to get out from under my ficathon addiction, but I'd read! Also, in terms of timing, the last two years inlovewithnight has run the Helo Shagathon in Jan-Feb. I don't know if it'll happen again this coming year, but it's something to keep in mind. And it's also a pretty good model of a small exchange for a small corner of fandom that seems to work pretty well.

Yeah, sometimes life just gets in the way. We understand that. But the fact that you contributed at all is enough for us. (We're easy to please.)

Haha, ficathon addiction. They should have support groups for that.

I just checked the shagathon and whatever project we do whether it be closer to christmas or something for the new year, our posting would likely be done before (or around the same time) the shagathon starts taking prompts. So we should be okay there as far as not overlapping in case we do decide to do something. But thank you for calling that to my attention. These are things we definitely need to know about.
