Yes, it has been 4 weeks! D'ja miss me? Well, I missed you! I was off on my long anticipated trip to visit my son and his wife in South Africa, with a few days r&r in Bali (had to do a round the world ticket to save $$$, so why not

Why does it hurt to laugh? Are you OK? and "julia does have a nice, strong trunk" I hope that is not a reference to any part of her anatomy. She is a beauty as far as I am concerned. (and what's with the BdwySecrts entrys calling her a goat? That's just nasty!!
Yay BS! That sounds so lovely.. I am expecting much more in-depth entries once you've recovered :) welcome home - your absence has definitely been notable.
Thanks for the welcome home. I missed reading your entries. Will catch up soon. Hope all is well. LOVED Bali. Such sweet people and lovely sense of peacefulness. There was one ugly incident, however. My daughter and I were accosted by a group of men on one of the side streets while doing the in and out of the shops. They surrounded us and got very grabby and kissy and frightened the shit out of her. I was just about ready to kick them all in the balls, when a policeman came by and broke things up. Very ugly! In all the countries where I have done that type of shopping (Mexico being the most frequent,) I never was as aggressively harassed. Luckily, a few $25 per hour full body massages made the whole thing go away.
Oh yes, the haggling is so intense isn't it? They just don't let up (our hotel in Bali was right in Kuta square, next to the memorial, and as soon as you exited it there were shops.. needless to say, we found another entry/exit point).
Wow, lucky about the policeman, the scenario sounds awful - considering you went to South Africa though, I'm glad that's about as ugly as things got :). Sounds great ;)
Well, there was one more ugly thing. Check out my reply to kchir, a few spots down, and learn about the lack of safety in Cape Town. Not an easy place to live. You need electrified razor wire on your outside walls and several large dogs! But except for that issue....I love SA! (and it is 2 VERY long plane rides away from Broadway, but you know about that!) TTFN
YAAAAAAAAAY! You're back and in one piece. I will speak for myself, you were missed by me. I want a much more in depth report as soon as you catch up on your sleep and I must say that I am greatly entertained by this portion of your sentence...because the darling was charging me...makes me laugh but only because I know you are safe and unharmed. Looking forward to more of your story! :)
Glad to be back with you all, really mean that. I have come to realize how much I appreciate the diversity and intelligence of my LJ peeps. So as to the "because the darling was charging me

Yay! You're home safe and sound. And wasn't life much more pleasant without being attached to your LJ for a month!!??!?!?
Idina is doing a concert in San Diego June 20th, which I know, isn't SF, but hey, it's left coast, right?
I definitely want to hear more about your adventures. And I just have to say "hostels? really?" b/c I have decided I am a luxury hotel (aka private bathroom and running water) kind of girl, and can't even imagine.
Welcome back, don't spend hours trying to catch up on your f-list! ;-)
So, I concur with you 100% about the accommodations! I only agreed to the hostel thing because my son and his wife were trying to keep the expenses down for all 5 in this party of adventurers. I can be a good sport, as long as there is a great abundance of humor and good food. The topper in this aspect of the trip was that in Cape Town, my daughter and I were on our own for the last 2 days. The first night of our solo venture, at 4:30 in the morning, we hear screaming and fast and furious hysterics from the French woman in the unit right below us. She had been robbed of her jewelry and documents, and all her clothing and things were strewn on to the sidewalk. This madness continued until the sun rose, and still no police came to investigate. I could write pages about the lack of safety these people in South Africa have to endure. Well, the gist is that we left the hostel that morning and went to the perfectly marvelous and fluffy bedded hotel down by the waterfront. Lots of $$$, but breakfast was included! We delighted in bubble baths

Well, since you have cat in your name, I will tell you my greatest disappointment with my trip....I saw almost NO CATS! We found 4 sleeping lions (1 male and his pride of 3 lovely ladies). They were sleeping in the shade, attracting flys, and could have cared less if we were near by. I think if I had gotten out of the Jeep, they would have just turned over and asked for a back rub, they were so lazy. They had eaten the night before, as there was blood on their whiskers and jaws, but no prey close by because the hyenas and jackals take anything the lions leave back to their dens. We saw no cheetahs or leopards either. Very bummed about that! We did see 1 serval cat, but it was dusk and it was running off. I had a wonderful time, but I am cat deprived. Guess I will have to go to the SF zoo and see a few there. Thanks for reading my LJ, and now I'd best get back to work. The boss was none to happy that I took a 3 week trip, but F him! Right?
I'm glad the lions you saw had eaten, so therefore not viewing you as food; but they could have at least looked up and acknowledged your presence/ I mean since you came all that way to see them? lol
I saw your post on Kelinswriter's thread that you got your tix - thought it impolite to /jack and ask you "where's your tix" Mine are B3, Row 14, seats 115-116 (bringing my wife, obviously)
If my flight gets in early enough, maybe we should go to San Diego zoo and see the big cats!
OOOO! I am going to have so much fun finding chenzels that night! How did you get so lucky to get B. I started at 9:05 and was stuck on the side with SECC2, row 10, seats 21-23. I don't care, though. I plan to drive in early Friday AM and would love to play. If not before...we should all get together and get plastered afterwards. I have a friend that lives in a nearby suburb, but maybe this is a weekend to indulge in all things Dee. I'll think on it. BS, happy to have tickets
