It is super random. I mean, calling it a "cloud gate"?? what the hell. I am thinking that they either were dumb in the contract with the artists to not be able to approve the ideas, or the committee wanted them to be too futuristic/milleniumish/avant garde and actually voted on these pieces. The only thing that looks crazy that I think works is the concert hall.

Yeah, I agree. The concert hall is wonderful. I can't wait until they actually have good concerts there. I heard for the first year, its strictly for orchestra and low key bands. Then after that, they'll open it up to popular acts. Should be a good venue for certain acts.

i was at millenium park about a month ago. it is very beautiful, but very unnecessary, since it stand atop what used to be part of grant park (right?). i like the bean, but the face fountain? it's weird. i don't like it.

the sick thing is, i think millenium park is just a big advertisment for major corporations. all the money was donated by big corporations, and their names are all over the place. it's really sick. sick sick sick. freakin daley.

but if it brings more tourists and their money to the city, i guess that's good. too bad they couldn't donate money for a decent homeless shelter, which is what this city really needs. i can see it now, The BP Shelter for the Homeless. now that's good PR.

You have some good points. It will be interesting to see how the park progresses. I'm interested in seeing how it looks in the winter time.

I'm also worried that the Bean is going to turn into a pigeon play ground. Today there was at least 20-30 on top of that thing. That thing could look royally ugly in years to come.

Definitely! I hope they continue to add new art as the years go on. There is so much opportunity in that park.
