Dreams

I lost count on how many times I have read that one of the biggest dreams of a fur is to be a video game artists and/or designer.  I will admit that back in the 80s I was wanting to do the same thing, but I dough that dream will go very far if I don't relocate from a place like Ration Creak, Louisiana. That's like someone living in San Jose whose ( Read more... )

My lifetime dream was to own my own farm, and I accomplished that dream in 2007 when I bought this place. Like yourself, I had to make a lot of sacrifices, including a secure, well-paying union job. Not a not of choice here for great restaurants, though some of the local places have a few dishes that are good. We finally got a cell-tower out here last year, so 3G is an option now, but we're using Xplornet (HughesNet) satellite for our internet access on the farm.

We acquired two more miniature horses, and a miniture hinny when we came out here, but there won't be any more until we get more fences built. Owning a farm is a lot more work than I expected it to be, but the rewards are great! As you say, you don't have the rat-races (nor the traffic) of the big city, you have privacy, you can see the stars at night... :)

The only deer we have out here are the wild ones, but it's an amazing feeling to look out your bedroom window and see three does and their fawns grazing and playing in the "backyard"... :)

I think that the hardest part for me when I first moved out here was trying to find a job. I was always over qualified, and I told them that I didn't care, that I just needed a job. It sucked going back down to minimal wage, which was a huge payout. I managed to get food for $30 a week and that included some pretty good stuff, back I 93, you could get a pack of pork steaks for under 3, 5 lbs of beef for under 5, and other good bargains. The trick was learning how to barren shop, and buying in bulk.

Yea, it's a lot harder then what many think.
