Xpost from LJ test...

LiveJournal was the first 'social networking' site I ever heard of. I've been a member there since early 2000... In all seriousness, the interface was always better. EVERYTHING was always better, as you could use HTML tags in your posts to format, add links (that weren't mined), it really is/was fantastic. The only thing they didn't have was people ( Read more... )

So that is you! It did not occur to me that you were the same person as your public personna over there! How odd---I know you as one person here, and then know another person OVER THERE, adding you totally at random, and now realize that I have known you here for ten years or so!

Facebook.

I was looking at my friends list here, and it's pretty decimated. I'm pretty sure no one is left anymore. I makes sense, FB killed everything, and it's a damn shame as it's pretty terrible. It reminds me of MSDOS in the eighties, there's no damn good reason why that crappy OS took off, it wasn't good, it wasn't useful, it was just popular.

I think there is a desire to leave the magazine/expose nature of fb and go back to thoughts beyond 146 characters. At least part time.

Definately. But at the same time, the draw is the feedback. Sure it was fun writing actual thoughts, but it was the feedback to those thoughts that made LJ great back in the day.

What is driving FB is the feedback that you get, not from YOUR creations, but from what you can point to that others have made. These people are also people you actually know, which somehow makes it 'better.'

Personally, I started with FB only because I could get back in touch with people I knew in College/HS. I hang around because I can quickly play scrabble with them. But it isn't nearly as satisfying because playing scrabble is hardly creating anything.

I think this is the first time I have posted since 2012. I miss having this outlet. May have to re-think using it again, if for no other reason than to get some shit out of my head. Since 2012, I have gotten divorced, moved my business to a new city, moved in with my boyfriend and his two sons, moved in a foster daughter (bringing the total kid count to 6) and started law school. Hmmm...that was a lot easier to sum up than I though it would be :)

I remeber you telling me you were thinking you were going to divorce back in '11... I'm sorry it didn't work out. I was in AZ last week... No offense, but I can't see how you folks live there. I'm sure you feel the same about our jungle weather here on the coast.

My hair likes your jungle weather even less!

Overall, the divorce was ok. We still worked together until two months ago. We still get along well - actually better now that we are divorced.

What part of Arizona did you visit? The great thing about Arizona is I can have the benefit of 75 degree winters and 80 degree summers are only about an hour and a half north of my house. We spend most of our weekends camping up near Flagstaff in the summer, so it makes it bearable.

I was in PHX. I'm not sure why I loathe that town so much...

I didn't stay too long just a couple of days to help my mother and nephew.
