BtVS aired in my area in December 1999, and I saw it by accident. It started off as ‘just one of those things you watch’ until it gradually dawned on me that I was hooked. I love the character of Angel, and that has inspired me to take part in the fandom by making sites and writing stories. I’ve made some fabulous friends through the series, and learnt a lot along the way as well.
I started watching mid-season 2 but didn't watch consistently (I remember Spike coming to Sunnydale, vividly. I was worried they were going to kill him off). I started making sure to watch every week once Faith came along and then it was a matter of buying the DVDs and catching what I missed on reruns. By the time season 5 ended, I was hard-core hooked!
I was literally flipping through channels and ran across the show just after the opening credits. The more I watched, the more I wondered if that movie I saw as a kid was gonna sue these guys for like, copying everything..... then I checked the TV listings and saw it was an actual SHOW, so I checked again the next week and it was on again!!! I was elated, finally, a really funny cool new vampire show that wasn't the usual run of the mill. I was totally in love.
Midway through season one a friend of ours recommended it to us. If memory serves, we didn't actually start watching it till my stepdaughter was already watching it. By mid-season 2 I was posting crossover fanfiction to Usenet.
I went to see the movie when it first came out, because it sounded like the best thing ever, right up my alley. Girls being awesome, fighty, funny - all the major entertainment groups. However, it was...just okay. So I wasn't in a hurry to watch the show when it aired, as I didn't want to be disappointed again. Also, I had a newish baby who never went to sleep when I wanted her to. I had many people telling me I would like it, and I was sure I would, but I only caught 2 episodes during the initial run, due to life and stuff. I picked up BtVS S2 on DVD when I finally thought I might be able to squeeze in some "me" time. After "School Hard" I was completely hooked and gobbled up everything I could, as fast as possible. Good times...
