The TV critic for The Star Ledger raved about it every week so when the first season was rerun that summer I decided to give it a try. By the end of the cold open I was in love and I still haven't changed my opinion.
I think Firefly was my door. And I have to say that I dismissed Buffy at first because of the crazy outlandish demon costumes I saw the first time I saw it (now I believe that episode was one where she was at Willy's) as someone who was very anti "alien/monster" type stuff it turned me off. Now I realize I lost a lot of good Buffy worshipping years. And also a boyfriend who would have loved to dress up as Spike and bite me(he moved to China, it's not because of my lack of Buffy knowledge that we broke up. It just would have added another element I didn't know was missing at the time...) There are lots of things I regret in my life, and not getting the whole Buffy vibe for so long is on that list
( ... )
I totally get what you're saying. I always watch Buffy when I'm depressed, too. It cheers me up. It's like a familiar face in the light of darkness. It's gotten me through tough times. I love these characters like they're my own. I'd be lost without them.
Boy, do I wish I had a boyfriend who'd be willing to dress-up as Spike! What fun.
I don't mind posting a question a week. I have tons already written, waiting to be posted. :)
I am [one of the few--we happy, happy few] who fell in love with the movie. I was seven or eight, maybe, when that came out, and waited anxiously for a sequel...which of course, never came. I was skeptical about the show, but decided to watch it since that was all I was going to get :P Instantly loved it, and tuned in every week. Kind of zoned out during the middle of season 4, but came back during "Restless" and picked up into s5. Started watching Angel as well, but it really didn't grab a strong hold of me until Darla's returned. I was hooked on that too. For the longest time, Tuesday nights were the best :P
How did you discover the wonderful world of Buffy (or, if not, your favorite Whedon show?)?
I was a fan of the movie, caught the first 5 minutes of Puppet Show and hated it, a friend tried to persuade me to try it again and then I saw David B on Mad TV so I listened to her and tuned back in. That episode was Becoming II. I was hooked from that moment on.
Did you watch it on television in the beginning?
Not quite. I did watch religiously from Becoming II on, though.
How long have you been a fan?
Since May 19, 1998
What makes your show so special for you?
The character development and attention to detail. What completely sold me forevermore on the show was when they actually showed us Xander's Snoopy Dance. I couldn't believe someone remembered a throwaway line from early seasons and actually *showed* us the dance.

When depressed, I've been known to put on S6 and watch it over and over. It seems to help.
