An open letter to Michael Caine.

Dear sir,

Let me first say that you are a veritable acting genius, and I fucking love you. But please, please stop fueling the rumors for the third Batman movie. Please. Just because you say that you "heard" a studio exec claim that the only way to top Heath's performance is to cast Johnny Depp as the Riddler and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the ( Read more... )

Nolan doesn't use big names? I beg to differ. Morgan Freeman. Michael Caine. Rutger Hauer. Gary Oldman. You don't consider those to be BIG NAMES? Bale's becoming one. Ledger was/is still one.

And why aren't you folks going off about how Angelina Jolie is supposedly going to be Catwoman? Huh? Quit bashing Johnny, and again, if he's going to be cast, then he's going to be cast, and you can expect a top-notch, creepy performance.

Those are big names of a different sort. Kind of like when Coppola cast Marlon Brando in The Godfather - at that point, he was pretty much a has-been, but he blew everyone away. I'm not saying that Freeman, etc are has-beens, but their names carry a different weight than Johnny Depp's. They're kind of like comfort actors - people go to see their movies because they always give good performances, not because they're huge-ass movie stars.

I think everyone pretty much knows that Jolie as Catwoman (and Cher as Catwoman, for that matter) is bollocks.

I don't think Johnny Depp can do creepy really well. Sweeney was more menacing than anything, and Mort wasn't creepy until the very end, and that had more to do with screwdrivers and corn on the cob. :\

If you don't think Depp can do creepy, then you must not have seen the same movies I have. Sorry, dear. Depp embodies creepy in Sweeney. At the end, agreed, of Secret Window. What else? I can't think. I'm too tired/sad tonight.

Johnny is and has been my favorite actor for years, and I agree, he's not the right guy for the Riddler.

(But don't fret because he and his "people" denied the rumor that he was gonna be the Riddler. THANK GOD.)

I think it's kind of debasing that he and his people even have to DENY the rumor. I mean, everybody knows it's not going to happen, right? :P

And the more I think about it, the more I feel like there shouldn't even be a sequel. :\

I've had many conversations on this subject with my friends, and I will say it again. If the Joker is ever to be brought back into the Batman filming world, it will be from a whole new set of people making the movie, no Nolan, no Bale and so on. I would also like to think production would take form at -least- 10 years from now ( ... )

I totally agree. My mom keeps saying that they're going to recast the Joker, but I keep telling her she's retarded and Nolan has too much class to do something so shitty. Obviously she hasn't read the eulogy he wrote for Heath after his death. :P

That's a perfect analogy, Willy Wonka and Bruce Willis. In one of my other comments, I said that Nolanverse is like a black & white film and Johnny Depp is Technicolor - he does not fit at all in that world, no matter how you slice it.

And I've said it before and I'll say it again. Christopher Nolan is going to seriously regret killing off Harvey. He's wasting such a good character. :P

I couldn't agree more, Nolan does have too much class. As does Bale. I speak as if I new these two men. XD
Bottom line, I really just could not imagine such a ridiculous idea of replacement taking from.

"Nolanverse is like a black & white film and Johnny Depp is Technicolor", also a great analogy!

lol, it's so true! Though the Joker was the star villain in The Dark Knight, Eckhart did a amazing job portraying Harvey Dent and with the transition to Two-Face.
Harvey Dent/Two-face is to Bruce, as The Joker is to Batman. It just makes sense to have him come back from the dead! XD
