You're refering to schemas - basically people relate certain attributes to a certain characteristic and therefore their mind automtically makes a link. Yes, most schemas are stupid yet the brain creates these schemas and they're hard not to change.
For example - if a guy is wearing tight leather pants with a tight pink shirt you would assume he is a homosexual. If someone has pink hair, tattoos and piercings you assume they're rebellious and punk-ish. If you see someone named David O. Barsky you assume he's a total loser-fag.
It's really stupid - only smart people can truly clear their mind and build specific schemas for each individual they meet as separate entities.
