There has been a lot of debate in the past (and present) about the addition of fluoride in the water supply to combat tooth decay. Fact: populations with fluoridated water have lower instances of tooth decay. It works. I am actually a fan of fluoride as I grew up taking fluoride pills even as a young teenager because the water was not fluoridated were I grew up. I have not had a single filling in my many years and I put it down to fluoride.

However I am with you on the folic acid. That just doesn't make sense.

Apologies for the intrusion, just wanted to say thanks for writing this out.
I missed most of the arguments around the issue and didn't really care enough to read deeper into it

Great to see we are toeing the aussie line like this. I think the key question here is, who profits? who is the driving force behind this?

It just feels like such a random issue, I didn't even know that we had a problem with birth defects from a lack of acid let alone it to be on a scale large enough to induce this response.

One cannot help but wonder if the time and effort that's gone into this couldn't of been better spent say in fighting obesity in lower social-economic communities? as an example
